Frequently Asked Questions
Tickets and showtimes:
- Can I buy tickets online?
Yes. We offer ticketing for theaters in Canada with online ticketing enabled. You can purchase tickets on any page with theater showtimes. The showtimes will show up as links from the theater showtime pages if tickets are available for a particular showtime.
Please keep in mind that some movies may not have online tickets available. For example, the show could be sold out or not available for online purchase.
MovieTickets.com is responsible for ticketing on Tribute websites. If you have any questions regarding ticketing, please contact them directly by filling out their Customer Service form at http://www.movietickets.com/cs.asp, or calling their Customer Service line at 1-888-440-8457.
- How/where do I buy tickets online?
You can purchase tickets on almost any showtimes page. Go to the showtimes page of your favorite theatre by typing your theatre’s name in the Search box, or by clicking on Search by Theatre. If your theatre offers online tickets (not all theatres offer on-line ticketing), you’ll see red Ticket boxes beside each showtime. Click on the orange-linked showtime, and then follow the instructions to buy tickets.
- How do I find out the price of a movie ticket?
For theaters with online tickets available, you can click on the showtime to buy tickets and will be able to see the price of the tickets.
For movies without online ticketing, please call the theater. Theater phone numbers are listed with their addresses on showtimes pages, or you can use the Tribute search box to search for theaters by name.
- When are showtimes updated? Why can’t I get certain future showtimes (for example, for the upcoming weekend on Wednesday)?
We update showtimes twice a day, so as soon as the theater owners decide on the times they will appear on the website.
Please keep in mind that showtimes generally run from Friday to Thursday each week, so early in the week theater owners may not have decided on the following week’s schedule.
- How long will a particular movie be playing in theaters?
We have no way of predicting how long any movie will play at a particular theater, but please keep checking our showtimes.
- I went to see a movie and you had it listed, but it wasn’t playing yet.
Some theaters determine showtimes more than a week in advance. Please make sure that the listing says that it’s playing on the day you’re planning to go. For example, if you want to go on Thursday, but the showtimes are listed as Friday to Wednesday, then the movie isn’t playing until Friday.
- What does No Passes mean?
That means if you have a free pass to get into a movie, you can't use it for that movie. Gift certificates are still accepted for these movies.
Contests:
- How do I find out who won a contest?
When you go to Tribute's Contests page, there's a link that says "View Contest Winners" at the top right hand of the page. Click there for a full list of winners.
- How many times can I enter your contests?
For most contests, as often as you like. Once in a while we have a contest you can only enter once, so please check Section No. 6, General Terms and Conditions in the Rules and Regulations if you're not sure. Make sure to close the browser after you enter a contest and open up a new one in order to enter again, or you’ll get a message saying you’ve already entered. You may enter as many times as you want, but remember to close and reopen the browser between entries.
- How do you contact your contest winners?
If it's a big prize, we call the winner by phone. If it's a small prize, such as a book or DVD, we’ll send the prize in the mail without notification. In the case of tickets, we’ll either notify you by email to make sure you keep that evening free or attach a voucher to the email that you can present at the theater.
- Why do I never win your contests?
The odds of winning a prize depends upon the total number of eligible entries received on or before the applicable contest closing date. We receive thousands of entries for each contest. You can enter most contests multiple times to increase your odds of winning.
- Why am I getting a message that says I already entered a contest when it allows unlimited entries?
After you enter a contest, you must close the browser and open up a new one in order to enter the same contest again, or you will get a message saying that you’ve already entered. You may enter as many times as you want, but close and reopen the browser between entries.
- Why can’t I switch the country on your contest entry form? Am I eligible to enter your contest?
Some contests are only open to certain people, e.g. residents of Canada, or people above the legal drinking age. If a contest is only open to certain people, those fields may be pre-filled in the entry form.
Please read the rules and regulations to ensure you are eligible. You can find these by clicking on the Rules and Regulations link on any contest entry page.
Theaters:
- I have a compliment or complaint about a theater.
We don’t own or operate any of the theaters listed on our website. However, we’re sure the theater would like to hear about your experience. You can find phone numbers for theaters on showtimes pages, or by using the Tribute search box to search on the name of theater.
- Can I rent a theater for an event? How can I book a birthday party at a theater?
We don’t own or operate any of the theaters listed on our website. Please contact the theater directly. You can find phone numbers for theaters on showtimes pages, or by using the Tribute search box to search on the name of theater.
Other:
- Why do I only see ads when I try to watch a trailer?
You need to have cookies enabled for our trailers section to work properly. For instructions as to how to enable cookies, click here. Once you have cookies enabled, you will only see 2 video ads per session, one each before the first two trailers you watch.
- Why don’t you list the movie ratings on each movie page?
Each province has its own rating system, so until we know in which province you’re planning on attending a movie, we can’t list the rating. When you look up a movie or a theater in showtimes, the rating of the movie will appear beside the title.
- What do the ratings mean?
For a list of what each rating means, click on the following link: http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/resources/ratings_classification_systems/film_classification/canada....
- How can I review a movie?
To review a movie, click on the movie, then when you're on the synopsis page, click on Rate (beside the star rating, underneath the Cast List). Select a rating and write your comment in the box underneath, then click Submit.
- How can I find out which movies have closed captioning or other hearing or seeing assisted devices?
Movies are not closed captioned, however some theaters have devices to help seeing or hearing. Where theaters have provided this information, we show it on the showtimes pages. You can also contact the theater directly: you can find phone numbers for theaters on showtimes pages, or by using the Tribute search box to search on the name of theater.
This is an underserviced part of the film industry, which the industry is working to correct.
- There's a movie playing in the U.S. that hasn’t opened yet in Canada. When will it be shown here?
Not all movies that are shown in the U.S. are released in Canada. This is more often the case with smaller movies, because they need to be picked up by a Canadian distributor to be released here.
- How can I find Canadian box office records for weeks other than the current one on your site?
We don’t keep archives of the box office records. However, this is our source for Canadian Box office receipts: Nielsen EDI (323) 860-4600; distrib@entdata.com
- I would like to contact a celebrity. Can you provide me with a contact?
Unfortunately, we don’t have any contact information for celebrities, directors or studio heads.
- How can I find out about screenings for parents with small children or babies?
Several theaters offer screenings during the week specifically for parents with small children. They are typically midday (e.g., 11am or 1pm) during the week.
You can also contact the theater directly. You can find phone numbers for theaters on showtimes pages, or by using the Tribute search box to search on the name of theater.
- How can I purchase a gift card?
We don’t offer gift cards at this time, although we may in the future. For now, please contact the theater or theater chain directly.
- What operas are playing at my local theater?
Please search on “metropolitan opera” using the Tribute search, and you will see a full list of upcoming operas. Clicking on each listing will give you information like cast and description, as well as the date it is playing. All performances begin at 1 pm Eastern Time on Saturday. As soon as the theaters that will show the opera are selected, you can check showtimes on the site to see where it’s playing.
- Why are there ads on your site? Can I get rid of them?
There is no fee to visit the site, and there’s a lot of work that goes into providing the content, from ensuring that the showtimes are correct, to sending a reporter to interview stars on their most recent movies. Having ads on the site allows us to continue providing the site for free.
Competition for web advertising is increasing, and advertisers are looking for sites that are, among other things, flexible with ad formats. Still, we do try to make sure that the advertising on the site is relevant to you, and that your experience isn’t compromised. For example, no matter how many trailers you watch, you will only see one preroll ad per browser session.
We apologize if this is an inconvenience, and hope that all the free content and utilities on the site make up for any inconvenience. As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts at webmaster@tribute.ca.
- How do I contact you?
We would love to hear any comments you have – feedback on the site, any problems you’re encountering, or compliments! Please send any comments to webmaster@tribute.ca.
- How can I apply for a job at tribute.ca?
Please send your resumé to hr@tribute.ca
