The Book of Eli

Interview with The Hughes Brothers (The Book of Eli)

Albert and Allen Hughes are pretty picky when it comes to directing films. It's been almost 10 years since their last movie, but when they were presented the script for The Book of Eli, they could not resist.

The story centers on a lone hero named Eli (Denzel Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of post apocalyptic America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with the Hughes Brothers in Los Angeles about why they chose this script over hundreds of others they have been presented with over the years. They also discuss why they are in complete awe of their star, Denzel Washington, and Allen Hughes gives us the secret to Denzel's wardrobe and what he chose not to wear to play Eli.
