IMAX: Hubble 3D

Interview with Mission Specialist Dr. K. Megan McArthur (Hubble 3D)

Through the power of IMAX 3D, Hubble 3D will enable moviegoers to journey through distant galaxies to explore the mysteries of our celestial surroundings, and accompany space-walking astronauts as they attempt the most difficult and important tasks in NASA's history. The film offers an inspiring and unique look into the Hubble Space Telescope's legacy and highlights its profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble 3D is produced and directed by Toni Myers.

Not many women get the opportunity to go to space, and astronaut Megan McArthur counts her lucky stars every day. Megan was one of the seven astronauts chosen to fly on the Shuttle Atlantis last May to help repair the Hubble telescope and be a part of Hubble 3D. This was Megan's inaugural space flight and according to her and her six crewmates, she was kept very busy. Megan's initial duty was to operate the space arm for the astronauts that were spacewalking, sometime for 8 hours straight, when they were out fixing the Hubble telescope.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer had the exclusive opportunity to chat with McArthur in Washington D.C. about her specific duties aboard the shuttle, what it means to be an astronaut (a female one, in particular), what it was like to be a part of this extraordinary mission and why she was allowed to wear jewelry in space.
