Interview with Gary Oldman (The Book of Eli)

There's no doubt about it—when it comes to casting the villain, Gary Oldman is usually your go-to guy. He currently shines opposite Denzel Washington in the action packed thriller The Book of Eli.

The story centers on a lone hero named Eli (Denzel Washington) who must fight his way across the wasteland of post apocalyptic America to protect a sacred book that might hold the key to saving the future of humanity. Oldman plays Carnegie, the self-proclaimed leader of a small makeshift town devoid of standard necessities, services, and most noticeably, laws. Carnegie is determined to take possession of the book Eli is guarding and will stop at nothing to get it.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Oldman in Los Angeles about why he was so drawn to this role and how he's getting a little agitated over his nickname, "Scary Gary." He also lets us know how he feels about a possible reunion party for all of the cast and crew of the Harry Potter series, now that the films are finally coming to an end.
