Sherlock Holmes

Interview with Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes)

Guy Ritchie has a winner on his hands with Sherlock Holmes. The director's version of the brilliant detective is played by Robert Downey Jr. as a streetwise, bare-knuckle brawler and martial arts expert—a far cry from the character played in the television adaptations. Ritchie has also beefed up the role of John Watson (Jude Law), changing him from a bumbling sidekick to Holmes's equal. According to the director, previous Sherlock Holmes adaptations have been wide off the mark and his version is true to Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer caught up with Guy Ritchie in London, England to discuss his long time love for the Sherlock Holmes stories and his vision for this movie. He also chatted about Robert Downey Jr.'s brilliance, why Downey and Jude Law work so well together, and how he's a bit jealous of the great shape Downey got in to play Sherlock Holmes.
