Sherlock Holmes

Interview with Joel Silver (Sherlock Holmes)

Joel Silver knew that Guy Ritchie had to be the director to work on Sherlock Holmes. The uber producer worked with Ritchie on RocknRolla and there wasn't a shred of doubt in his mind that Ritchie would deliver with Sherlock.

Silver is one of the most prolific and successful producers in the history of motion pictures. He has produced over 50 films, including the groundbreaking Matrix trilogy, the blockbuster four-part Lethal Weapon franchise, and action films Die Hard and Predator. To date, Silver's catalog of films have earned more than $10 billion in worldwide revenue from all sources. Under his Silver Pictures banner, Silver produced Sherlock Holmes, which stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams, and the action thriller The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, under the direction of Albert and Allen Hughes, due out January 2010.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer had the opportunity to chat with Joel Silver in London about producing Sherlock Holmes and his hopes that it will turn into a profitable franchise.
