Creation

Interview with director Jon Amiel (Creation)

What happens when a world-renowned scientist, crushed by the loss of his eldest daughter, conceives a book which will prove the non-existence of God? Creation tells the story of Charles Darwin and his masterwork "The Origin of Species." The film is directed by Britain’s Jon Amiel, whose last big screen feature was The Core. Darwin is played beautifully by Paul Bettany and focuses more on Darwin’s personal life. Darwin’s wife Emma is played by Bettany’s real-life wife Jennifer Connolly and there is no arguing that the chemistry between the two is believable and real.

Tribute’s Bonnie Laufer spoke with Amiel at the Toronto International Film Festival about working on this film, getting to know Charles Darwin on a personal level and why he was insistent that Paul Bettany take on the lead role.
