Edge of Darkness

Interview with Martin Campbell: Director Edge of Darkness

Edge of Darkness was a British television miniseries directed by Martin Campbell, originally broadcast in six fifty-five minute episodes in late 1985. Twenty years later, Martin Campbell was approached to adapt the series for the big screen, starring Mel Gibson. A mixture of crime drama and political thriller, Edge of Darkness revolves around the efforts of policeman Thomas Craven (played by Mel Gibson) to unravel the truth behind the brutal killing of his 24-year-old daughter Emma. Craven's investigations soon lead him into a murky world of government and corporate cover-ups and nuclear espionage.

Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Martin Campbell in Los Angeles and asked him why he thought Mel Gibson was the perfect man for this role, despite the fact that he has not been on screen in seven years. In addition to talking about Edge of Darkness, Campbell discussed his preparations for the highly anticipated movie, The Green Lantern, starring Canada's own Ryan Reynolds.
