Octavia Spencer Interview - Gifted

Octavia Spencer discusses her latest film, Gifted. She chats about the child the film profiles, the similarities between her own character in the movie and the woman she portrays in Hidden Figures, and why Gifted was fun for her to work on. Octavia stresses that it's "okay to be smart, that you don't have to cover for being smart, and that it's good," that "we have to stop placing gender norms on things," and adds that she hopes future films continue to "demystify what it is to be a female mathematician or scientist." She also says she was the first person to sign on to the film, and that when she found out Chris Evans was circling the project, she put in a call to help secure his attachment. 

Gifted opens in select theatres April 7, 2017 and across the country on April 14, 2017.
