Creation

Interview with Paul Bettany (Creation)

Creation is the story of Charles Darwin and the single most explosive theory in history. Darwin’s great, still controversial book, "The Origin of Species," depicts nature as a battleground. In Creation the battleground is a man’s heart. Played beautifully by Paul Bettany, Darwin is torn between his love for his deeply religious wife (Jennifer Connolly) and his own growing belief in a world where God has no place. He finds himself caught in a struggle between faith and reason, love and truth. The Darwin we meet in Creation is a young, vibrant father, husband and friend whose mental and physical health gradually buckles under the weight of guilt and grief for a lost child.

Tribute’s Bonnie Laufer spoke with Bettany in Los Angeles while promoting Legion, and asked him what it was like to portray a man grieving over the loss of his child, being a father himself. Bettany also discussed what it was like to work with his real-life wife, Jennifer Connolly. Although they have been in a couple of films together, this is the first time the couple has actually starred in a movie together, and they shared pretty much every scene.
