The Lovely Bones

Interview with Rachel Weisz (The Lovely Bones)

The Lovely Bones is based on the best-selling novel of the same name written by Alice Sebold. Directed by Peter Jackson, it stars Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) as protagonist Susie Salmon, along with Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz as her parents, Jack and Abigail Salmon. Set in the early '70s, the story is told from the perspective of Susie Salmon, who, from heaven, watches her family cope after she is brutally murdered.

While the book might be considered at times a hard read, Peter Jackson hopes that after seeing the film, people will leave feeling uplifted. Oscar® winning-actress Rachel Weisz was also deeply touched by the book and desperately wanted to be a part of the film.

Tribute’s Bonnie Laufer spoke with Weisz in Los Angeles about working on this project and the challenges she faced playing a grieving mother on screen.
