In the mid-1990s, Sandra Bullock became Hollywood’s fresh-faced sweetheart after she starred in Speed and While You Were Sleeping. Fifteen years later, Bullock is Hollywood royalty: her films have topped the box office worldwide, making her one of the richest female celebrities in the world.
Except she’s not exactly married to a prince. On July 16, 2005, Bullock said “I do” to Monster Garage motorcyclebuilder and outlaw descendent Jesse James, and the down-to-earth couple spend a lot of time riding dirt bikes and having decidedly low-brow fun.
“Right now, I’m kind of getting into my childhood,” 44-year-old Bullock told Harper’s Bazaar. “I didn’t have a teenage or early-20s experience that was free or without worry. I missed the ‘screw-everything, have-a-good-time’ phase. I was worried that if I didn’t stay on track and work, work, work, I was never going to accomplish anything. Now I’m trying to have fun and have the freedom to do nothing.”
She doeskeep busy, though. Bullock recently starred in The Proposal, alongside Canadian-born talent Ryan Reynolds, who played the younger assistant to Bullock’s character; she proposes to him in an effort to avoid deportation. (Reynolds told Harper’s Bazaar Bullock is “the ultimate catch, no matter what—age, particularly with her, is completely irrelevant.”)
In Bullock’s classic comedic form, she also stars in All About Steve, in which her lovesick character trails a cameraman (Bradley Cooper) around the country when she realizes that “he’s the one.” She is also a producer.
Bullock’s latest film is the bio-pic The Blind Side. It’s about Michael Oher, an offensive lineman for the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens who rose to football stardom despite an impoverished upbringing. Bullock plays his adoptive mother.
