Brother Bear
et against the natural splendor of the Pacific Northwest, Disney’s Brother Bear tells the story of a boy named Kenai (voiced by Joaquin Phoenix ) whose life takes an unexpected twist when he is transformed into a bear. The colorful cast of characters also includes Ruke and Tuke, two misguided moose, voiced by Canadians Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas (SCTV’s McKenzie brothers). This film has the musical vote going for it as well, with six new songs from Phil Collins, who won Best Song for Disney’s Tarzan (1999).

Finding Nemo
hat do you get when you combine CGI animation, the inspired casting of Albert Brooks as the voice of a slightly neurotic clown fish and Ellen DeGeneres as his forgetful but optimistic friend, plus a story that appeals to both young and old? You get a whale of film called Finding Nemo . This heartwarming tale of a father searching an ocean for his son not only swam away as the most successful animated film of 2003, it beat out Disney’s own The Lion King as the top-grossing animated film of all time.

This film, created in France, Canada and Belgium, has been touted as Finding Nemo’s real competition. The story centers on Champion, a young man who is competing in the famous Tour de France bicycle race. When he is kidnapped, his grandmother and faithful dog Bruno set out to rescue him. Their quest takes them to the city of Belleville where they meet the triplets — three eccentric female music hall stars from the ’30s. Despite its muted colors and very little dialogue — this one is a joy to watch.
