Hear it! crazy/beautiful Hollywood Records Best tracks off this summer hit are easily Fastball's riveting "This Is Not My Life," The Dandy Warhols with "Sleep," Lily Frost with the excellent "Who Am I" and the coquettish Bjork-like Emilianna Torrini with the street sulk smarts of "To Be Free." Baby Boy Universal Records Director John Singleton, who picked all the music for this hot summer flick, has a winner in this soundtrack as well. Introing with "Summer Madness" by Kool and The Gang and into "Just A Baby Boy" by Snoop Dogg, Tyrese and Mr. Tan, the West Coast ride is all over this baby. Other key cuts include "Crip Hop" by the Eastsidaz, also featuring Snoop, and "I'd Rather Be With You" by Bootsy Collins. The Fast and the Furious Def Jam/Universal Ja Rule sure gets his props on this soundtrack, leading off with Faith Evans and Caddillac Tah in the "Good Life Remix," followed up by four more contributions. With other highlights such as "Suicide" by Scarface and "Hustlin" by Fat Joe, you get a good idea of wassup with this. - Gerry Young |
