had its own version of Fight Club on the Toronto set of The
Perfect Son. The film stars Chandra West (Something More) and
David Cubitt (Traders) and one scene required
Chandra to slap Cubitt around. "He was a real sport. He said, 'No.
No it's OK. Hit me,' and I hit him hard, and not just once but ten
times," says Chandra. "But David's like a freak of nature. You
couldn't even see a hand print on his face. The Knockaround Guys
are Barry Pepper (The Green Mile), Seth Green (Austin
Powers) and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich)
and they've been knocking around Ontario and Alberta since late
September.
While shooting out in Delilah, Alberta, a prairie village temporarily
turned into Wibaux, Montana, Seth Green was busy signing
autographs. The town's population is 208, but somehow, once Seth
arrived, it grew - he signed upwards of 500 autographs.
although it is fairly quiet on the
western front these days, there are still a few productions shooting.
These include Honey I Shrunk the Kids, now in its third season,
and Caitlin's Way, a new Canadian series starring Lindsay
Felton, Cynthia Belliveau and Ken Tremblett. |
The latest Gary
Burns pic, Way Downtown, with Fabrizio Filippo and Don
McKellar, wrapped at the end of November. Since the story concerns a
bet made among a group of
office-worker friends to see who can go the longest without stepping
outside, Calgary's downtown core and the Plus 15 system of indoor
tunnels was fundamental to the making of this film. When Don and Fab did
step out after a day inside, it was rumored that Caesar's was their
indoor location of choice. (Must have been the steaks.)
in Vancouver, Christopher Guest
(Spinal Tap), Eugene Levy and Parker Posey are
shooting Best In Show, a follow up to Wating for Guffman.
It is a documentary-style comedy about dog shows. And speaking of dogs, Kenneth
Branagh, Robin Wright-Penn and Lynn Redgrave are filming How
to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog.
On break from shooting Get Carter, Sylvester Stallone and Mickey
Rourke were spotted in front of DV8. Stanley Tucci and Bridget
Fonda are also on the West Coast shooting The Whole Shebang.
If you are looking for good places to spot the stars, Yaletown is always
a good bet. Some of the favorites include Century Grill (the restaurant
formerly known as DeNiro's) and Bar None.
in
Nova Scotia, a CBS television movie - Songs in Ordinary Time
starring Sissy Spacek (Blast From the Past) - began
rolling October 25 and was expected to last until the end of November.
Spacek will costar with Beau Bridges (RocketMan).
Filming has also started on a TNT original movie, Baby. It will star Farrah
Fawcett (The Lovemaster, The Apostle) and Jean Stapleton
(You've Got Mail) and is being produced by Glenn Close.
Cameras are also rolling in Halifax on the Canadian-German coproduction,
The Bookfair Murders. We'll keep you posted.
