The gold rush of 1849 brings a young man (Mullan) to California, where he founds the town
Kingdom Come. One drunken night, he trades his wife (Kinski) and daughter (Polley) for a bag of gold.
Twenty years later, they come back for him, and it's the beginning of his downfall in a time that's
already shaky for the town as the prosperity of the gold rush has already long since faded.
Based on the novel
The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy.

Canadian Connection: Stars Canadians Polley and Kinski and was partly filmed in Alberta, Canada.
I was in it and the actuall movie (before they butchered it in the cutting room and left all the sceens that made it good and that made it make scence on the floor) It actally is a very tragic, gritty and sad movie. I Could name some scences that really could have been taken out and replaced with more that would have made the actuall movie good. But all the actors were so pleasent to all the extras, especially Milla Jovovich and Sarah Polley wich made it worth comming at 3 in the morning every day to like 30 below weather.
Interesting movie, but a little too long.
