A Price Above Rubies Movie Synopsis

A Price Above Rubies is the passionate, provocative tale of a young woman in a closed Hasidic community who discovers - and must come to grips with - the power of her own sexuality and individuality. Sonia's life has turned out exactly as her parents planned: she has married a young scholar and holy man, given birth to a baby boy and settled into a decent, spiritual life within a close-knit, Orthodox Jewish community in New York. Her role in this world is to care for her husband and look after her household -- a price she considers to be far above rubies. Haunted by ghosts of deeply-buried passions, Sonia struggles to balance her family and community life with her newfound career in the jewelry business as she learns to define her own self-worth.

I found this movie very interesting, since it develop in an almost unknown and misteriuous community, and shed some light on a most forbidden theme: our inner emotions and self-worth as an individual. The dialogues are very spiritually-oriented and profound. This movie made you think on what is really important in life.

I really enjoyed the content of the film, and thought the story was excellent, however, it felt like they had a bunch of goyem protraying Jews and seemed as though the expressions and mannerisms were forced. There are some things that can`t be facked, and being Chasidic is one of them.
