A family faces the worst enemy of all -- itself. Andy (
Philip Seymour Hoffman) is an overextended broker who lures his younger brother, Hank (
Ethan Hawke) into a larcenous scheme: the pair will rob a suburban mom-and-pop jewelry store that appears to be the quintessential easy target. The problem is, the store owners are Andy and Hank’s actual mom and pop and, when the seemingly perfect crime goes awry, the damage lands right at their doorstep.
This is the preefct way to break down this information.
Great performances all round (though Hawke was out of his depth with the talent around him), an a plot that started well but kind of, well, lost the plot. A study in gloom and with no redeeming characters - don't expect to come out of the theater feeling that your life has been enhanced.
Excellent movie. Good story plus good acting equals great entertainment. Makes the toubles of your own insignificant. db
