Assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede was one of the most beloved residents in the small rural town of Carthage, Texas. A model citizen, he not only taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir, but was always available to lend a helping hand. Since everyone loved and appreciated Bernie, they weren't surprised when he won over a new fanMarjorie Nugent, a rich widow with a sour demeanor.
Marjorie quickly became dependant on Bernie and even put him in charge of her financial affairs. Since he was handling everything for Marjorie, the townspeople didn't think it was strange when they didn't see her for months. That's why it came as a shock when they learned Marjorie was dead and had been for some time, and Bernie was charged with her murder.
Jack Black gives a very good performance, but the movie losses steam half-way through and becomes dull and boring.
i enjoyed every minuet of this true story. a unique piece of work, a special film, written brilliantly, an excellent story, amazing characters; you'll watch the end credits with a big smile on your face.
one of the worse movie i have ever watched. it is painfully dragging.
