Carnages Movie Synopsis
Mortally wounded by a bullfighter during a bullfight in Spain, a bull runs his torturer through before dying. The carcass of the animal is sent to the slaughterhouse, where he is chopped into pieces. The eyes are sent to a university where a researcher named Jacques works. The horns are bought by Rosie, Jacques’ mother, who lives with her other son, Luc, a taxidermist. The bones are sold in a supermarket where a couple buy a bone for their dog. They are the parents of Winnie, a young epileptic girl, student of Jeanne, a teacher whose mother, Alice, eats the meat of the bull one evening at a restaurant. She dies shortly afterwards. The gift of one of her organs makes it possible to operate on the bullfighter.
A very interesting attempt to revive the significance of primal ritual in the bullring for the mediated and enervated popular culture of northern Europe. Shades of The Sun Also Rises.
