An energetic, gritty and ultimately inspiring coming of age tale about a gifted young woman who defies all the rules as she step dances her heart out to achieve her dreams.
Raya (Rutina Wesley) is a gifted student who grew up in Toronto's Jane-Finch Corridor, a community with a reputation for conflict. She's been attending a private school outside the city. But with family resources exhausted, Raya is forced to return to her old neighborhood. Realising she could win some serious prize money by entering underground dance competitions, Raya fights her way onto the all-male JSJ (Jane Street Junta) "step" crew, led by the charismatic Bishop (Dwain Murphy).
Canadian Connection: Filmed in Toronto using a mostly Canadian cast. Several Canadian artists are featured on the soundtrack.
