Joe Buck (
Jon Voight), an aspiring male prostitute from Texas, heads to Manhattan where he hopes to find wealthy women willing to pay for the services of a handsome man. He meets up with Ratso Rizzo (
Dustin Hoffman) a con-artist and a relationship of hustlers ensues. Ratso's health becomes an issue, leading Joe to some difficult actions.
