Morvern Callar Movie Synopsis
When Morvern Callar, a 21-year-old supermarket employee in Scotland wakes on Christmas morning to find her boyfriend has committed suicide on the kitchen floor, she opens his Christmas presents to her, puts on her new jacket, takes her new Walkman and goes to work. That night, she goes out with her best friend Lanna and tells everyone that her boyfriend not only left her, but has left town as well. When she goes home, she finds he's left money in the bank for her as well as his unpublished novel on a disc. She changes the author's name on the novel to hers and sends it to a publisher, after hiding his body in a cupboard. She then goes to Spain with Lanna for a holiday with the money he's left her.
Excellent film, well paced. It is refreshing to see a film that manages to be both acessible and thoughtful. It effectively evokes everyday experiences whilst imbuing them with an otherworldliness. Well cast with both lead actressses.
the movie is better than the book actually. the idea is fantastic but it didn`t quiet work out as a novel but as a movie ... I LOVE IT
