Suspicious River Movie Synopsis

Leila Murray (Parker) is selling her body to the dull-eyed men that pass through the motel where she works as a receptionist. Secretly, she is saving to buy something that she sees shimmering just beyond the horizon -- something she desperately needs but dreads being given.

One October night she meets Gary Jensen (Rennie), a dangerous drifter who Leila finds both brutal and seductive. Feeding her growing desire to break and be broken, Gary compels Leila to dive deeper into her own unrealized darkness, uncertain whether she will survive Suspicious River, or if she even wants to.

Based on the novel of the same name by Laura Kasischke.

It`s a tragic movie really about child abuse disguised as a soft-porno. Every following minute seems too obvious, as it would shock anymore, just like the character herself in her apathy. That she can`t see the oportunities or fight her strange motivations (which don`t make no sense in the first place, other then satisfying the voyeristic needs of perverted viewers, the movie doesn`t offer any. There is no solution, morale, or anything for that matter offered in this movie.

Suspicious River is a typical replay of a hooker`s everyday life and betrayal

Molly Parker & Lynne Stopkewich`s level of commitment does much to energize a very dark tale. SUSPICIOUS RIVER rates as a brave step in the careers of both women...
