The prescient and tragic true story of Sam Bicke (
Sean Penn), a disillusioned "everyman" who, in
1974, was driven to plot the assassination of the 37th President of the
United States.
Despite the fact that his marriage is breaking up and that he is trapped in
a sales job he finds demeaning, Sam tries desperately to succeed both at
home and in the workplace; all he wants is to win his family back and to
start a business of his own. However, in a society worn down by political
corruption and the Vietnam War, there is not much room left for dreamers.
Sam's world unravels against the backdrop of the Watergate scandal, which
exposes culpability at the highest levels of society. With images of Nixon --
"the greatest salesman of them all"-- flooding the airwaves, Sam believes he
has found the person responsible for his, and America's, problems and makes
his appointment with destiny.
i can not explain to you what a AMAZING job sean penn did in this movie, i cant belive this was not advirtised to the fullest!! amazing filming and setting, story was riviting and somthing everyone should see and no about!! and the acting MY GOD, AMAZING one of sean penns DEFINATE best performances!! ppl should see this very true and is un-forgettalbe, when its over, u will think, what an awsome movie, it really makes u think of our society today and how corrupt it is
THIS IS WHAT FILMS AND ACTING ARE MADE OF!!!
Sean Penn is absolutely stunning...just completely spectacular. Naomi Watts is half decent as well, and Don Cheadle is his normal consistent self. The story however...I have mixed feelings. Although I see the point made about the inequalities of the 1960`s/70`s society and its struggles with racism and a floundering democratic economy, but was Sean Penn`s character really mistreated or was he just a dumb man?
