The Contender Movie Synopsis

After the Vice President dies, the president (Bridges) chooses senator Laine Hanson (Allen) to take his place, making her the first woman to hold that office. His choice meets with opposition from members of both parties, especially a political adversary (Oldman) who will do anything to discredit her. As she begins to go through the confirmation hearing process, controversy erupts as shocking secrets are revealed from her past, which threaten both her personal life and political future.

Now, more than ever, she must prove she has the stomach to get the job.

Very well done. Better than most.

I really liked this film. I never even heard about it until recently when we watched if in our “sex, gender, and culture” class. Very good! If you liked this movie you might also like North Country and G.I. Jane.

This film is excellent, well scripted, directed, with great performance by all, plus excellent music that goes with it. Despite the fact that it did not have a good box office, it is one of the best movies I have seen in many years. Definitely two thumbs up.
