Jeanne Dion, an emergency room doctor from Montreal, arrives in Normétal, an Abitibi mining village, to replace Dr. Rainville for a month. On the eve of his holidays, the old man feels the need to retire and wants to discuss with Jeanne the possibility of her taking his place.
Jeanne is uncertain about her future and refuses to commit to long term, at least for now. But when Dr. Rainville has a heart attack immediately after returning from his holidays, she has to decide whether she can stay and possibly take on his practice.
