A former war hero, Benjamin Martin (
Mel Gibson) has renounced fighting forever to raise his family
in peace. As time passes on his sprawling plantation, the wife of this once efficient and ferocious
soldier bears him seven children.
But when the British arrive at his South Carolina home and endanger what he holds most dear, Martin
takes up arms alongside his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel (
Heath Ledger), and leads a brave rebel
militia into battle against a relentless and overwhelming English army.
In the process, he discovers the only way to protect his family is to fight for a young
nation's freedom.
This movie is of course not historically accurate that being said Jason Isaacs as Col Tavington stole this movie. Sorry Mel but it's true. The storyline was too much like Braveheart but I still loved it. GO Jason Isaacs!!
a very powerful movie , thumps up to mel gibson
Big fan of Mel Gibson but this movie is awful. Basically a remake of Braveheart only now set during the American Revolution. However unlike Braveheart this movie is horribly cliched and dumbed down. It also plays loose with history, downplaying French assistance and turning the British into virtual Nazis. This movie is American patriotic to a shameless extent.
