Tom Avery (
Bruce Greenwood), a charismatic late-night radio talk show host, has had three divorces before the age of 40. Fay (
Emilia Fox) is his total opposite; her romantic ideal has not yet been attained and is unlikely ever to be due to her impossibly high expectations as a result of living with the perfection that is her parents' rock solid marriage. When the couple meet and fall deeply in love at first sight, this unlikely pairing proves the rule that in love, there are no rules. But when Fay's parents' marriage breaks down suddenly after 40 years of wedded bliss, Fay and her relationship with Tom are thrown into turmoil. Will Tom be able to persuade his naturally cautious and terminally confused fiancée to work through all the damage and chaos?

Canadian Connection: Mostly Canadian cast; director
Deepa Mehta (landed immigrant); filmed in Toronto, Ontario; based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Carol Shields.
Fascinating small film about love - lost and found. Interestingly filmed in urban landscape. Indian music captured the melancholy of certain moments.
Loved it! David Stratton is a class A actor.
I found moments in the film very good but not when Greenwood and Fox were on screen. In fact the two starts Greenwood and Fox are really unappealing, whitebread and their on screen moments as excrutiating and boring. A little more personality in the lead casting could have rendered this an enjoyable movie.
