Carola (Nina Hoss) is a young Swiss woman who is finishing a two-week
vacation in Kenya with her boyfriend. While spending the last day in the
city of Mombasa, she briefly meets Lemalian (Jacky Ido) a Samburu warrior
who cuts a handsome figure in his traditional dress. It’s love at first sight.
Setting into motion her fate, Carola cancels her return flight and sends her boyfriend home. She then sets out to find Lemalian, who has since left the city for his remote village, where the Samburus (a tribe related to the Masai) herd goats and live in mud huts. In Switzerland, Carola owned her own shop. Now she must adjust to Lemalian’s world, where the cultural differences range from sex (no kissing), to food (sugared tea, goat meat and blood) and tradition (men mustn’t eat in the company of women). Can love overcome all?
