Umrao Jaan Movie Synopsis
When a simple and humble family man gives evidence in a case against Dilawar Khan, a habitual offender, the criminal vows revenge. Ten years later, upon his release, he kidnaps the man’s nine-year-old daughter, Amiran, and sells her into the flesh trade of Lucknow.
Yet with her dance prowess, literary genius, magnetic persona and inimitable style, Amiran, now named Umrao, went on to become the pride of Lucknow. All she wanted was a life laced with simplicity, but her weighty existence crushed her beyond imagination. Each time she reached out for happiness, it evaded her. Now a beautiful, educated young woman, she dreams not only of a husband and a home, but to find her family.
Based on the 1905 novel “Umrao Jaan Ada” by Mirza Haadi Ruswa.
The original Umrao Jaan is the only Indian film I have ever liked. This new version could have been a breakthrough film for India, but remains, at the most, typical.
This movie is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW. Beautifull made and acting is wonderful but no effort is made to capture the audiences attention.
very very boring....walked out cuz it was so long:(
