New releases this week – Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Unfriended and more!

PaulBlartMallCop2It feels like spring has finally sprung! If you’re planning on heading outside and taking advantage of the beautiful weather, why not make your way to your local theatre? Here are the new releases for this weekend!

Making its debut today is the comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. In this sequel, which takes place six years after the first film, Paul (Kevin James) takes a well-deserved vacation to Las Vegas with his daughter. It’s a teenager’s worst nightmare in the found footage supernatural thriller Unfriended. Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) commits suicide after a video of her passed out at a party goes viral. On the anniversary of her death, six of her friends regroup on Skype. During their chat, an unexpected account joins their conversation, demanding answers. For showtimes, click here.

If you’re an animal lover, you’ll want to check out Monkey Kingdom. This documentary shows the life of a newborn monkey and his mother as they try to survive the social hierarchy of the troop. For each ticket sold during opening week of the film, April 17-23, Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International, an organization that combines science, partnership and field demonstration to empower societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature and global biodiversity for the well-being of people. Opening in Toronto, Montreal and available on VOD is Beyond the Reach. A young guide (Jeremy Irvine) is hired to take Madec (Michael Douglas), a corporate bigwig, hunting in the Mojave Desert. When Madec shoots and kills a innocent passerby, he fears his reputation will be destroyed. Opening in select cities is True Story, a drama based on the memoir of American journalist Michael Finkel. After finding out that an accused murderer has lived for years under his identity, disgraced journalist Michael Finkel (Jonah Hill) finally comes face-to-face with Christian Longo (James Franco), the man behind his downfall. Michael must uncover Christian’s true story to redeem his own reputation. Debuting in Toronto is Desert Dancer, the story of Afshin Ghaffarian (Reece Ritchie), a young self-taught Iranian dancer. Afshin and his friends risk their lives to form an underground dance group in a country where dancing is banned. They watch prohibited online videos and learn dance moves from the likes of Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev.
