  102. Jackie Coley • February 25, 2017 @ 6:04 PM

I was talking to my Dad last week and asked why I never heard about his grandparents. He said that his father (my grandfather) didn’t speak of them as they were both shot in their home by the Russian invasion into the Ukraine. Their daughter (my great aunt) was raped in front of them and my grandfather and his 2 brothers managed to flee and eventually crossed the Ukraine border into Poland and joined the Polish Army and a few years later came to Canada. Then 2 days after the conversation with my Dad I saw the advertisement of Bitter Harvest. Even though this movie is going to be difficult to watch, as it touches so many people in my family, it is a movie that I don’t want to miss and hope to understand the strength and ambition of so many of the survivors. I live in Winnipeg and hope to win advanced screening passes.

This episode in Ukrainian history touched so man, changed the course of history of modern Ukraine and it’s implications have been far-reaching and are felt until this vary day. What is going on in eastern Ukraine right now is a direct result of Stalin’s terrible crimes and the soviet unions subsequent cover-ups.
