Anderson Cooper defends Anne Hathaway

By Tribute on March 1, 2013 | 14 Comments

Just as everyone seems to be dumping on actress Anne Hathaway, CNN reporter and TV host Anderson Cooper spoke our in her defense, saying, “The level of hatred people have towards Anne Hathaway; I had no idea. She seems like a perfectly lovely person.” When a co-host remarked that her acceptance speech at the Academy Awards was “terrible,” Cooper argued: “She got up there, she made eye contact, she remembered people’s names without reading it. I mean, give her a break.” He also made a point about the unfounded hate that people sometimes feel towards a public figure, saying that they “go overboard” in voicing their opinions. He sympathizes with the actress, saying, “The amount of pressure she must feel knowing all these people hate her—give her a break; she seems like a lovely young person. Again, people form all these opinions on people based on nothing. You have no actual evidence.” He added, “I don’t know Anne Hathaway. It just seems so completely unfair to me. I had no idea this whole hatred existed, I feel like I’ve just woken up and realized the entire universe is attacking her and I feel bad for her and I am defending her.” ~Carlos Laron

you see it in hollywood , sports and everyday life….we all want to be loving and sympathetic but aren’t comfortable unless we’re putting someone down or forming a negative opinion on people we have never met…..100 percent of you reading this will say “not me” but if you wake up and listen to yourselves (myself included) I will say “yes you”

Anderson is right! Her speech was wonderful and she sounded very genuine! I love her as an actress and though I don’t know her as a person I think that her public persona has been one of kindness and down-to-earth goodness. Leave her be!

It’s her speech she can say what she wants! She’s not there to entertain your lame asses, she’s there to accept an award for her hard work. Some people are just pathetic.

Duck for flying objects…dare I ? I don’t like her at all, her acceptance speeches are nauseating, and not a fan of her acting. However “Level of hatred”? Seems over the top. C’mon Anderson, surely in your business you can be objective enough to realize to each their own appllies re public figures? Give us a break….

I friggin’ LOVE Anne Hathaway, and had no idea other people had so much hate for her! I mean hell, when *I* say I hate her, it’s just out of pure jealousy & I don’t actually mean it (and everyone around me knows it). She’s stunning, she’s got all sorts of talent coming out the wazoo, and she’s just a cool chick. Haters can suck it.

    }:)

Anne Hathaway is a special talent and by all accounts a genuine person. Catwoman, you rock! Jennifer Lawrence, however, is annoying beyond belief…

This is exactly the same crap that goes on in high school. Yes, the pretty girls get bullied too.

Hate if you must, but what purpose does it serve? I personally like Anne, she is a very good actress. Did you see her in One Day, she made you cry in The Princess Diaries she made you laugh. What more do you want from an actor? Her personal life is her business. Here’s to a long life in the movies.

By Anderson’s logic we shouldn’t like her because we don’t know her either. People form their opinions of celebrities based on whatever is shown to them (interviews, movie roles, etc.) which is completely valid. It’s not “hate”, but some people just may not like a certain actress or singer and they’re entitled to their opinion why.

I agree that her acceptance speech was horrible. Not for what she said, but it seemed so rehearsed and insincere. She’s a really good actress, but comes off as trying too hard constantly, which is really a turn off for me.

People hate her? who? why? …. shes an actress, she just does her job and does it well, what are people hating on?

From starring in Disney’s The Princess Diaries to being an Oscar winner is impressive. She’s talented enough to play a number of roles that are challenging and she does it so well. Why are these haters hating?
