Barkhad AbdiNot much has been shared about Barkhad Abdi‘s character in the highly anticipated Blade Runner 2049. That is, until now.

As covered by The Hollywood Reporter, the Captain Phillips Oscar nominee chatted with Heat Vision about his role in Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming sci-fi film.

While addressing his character, he said, “He’s a scientist and he’s totally deformed.”

The 32-year-old actor also opened up about honoring Ridley Scott‘s 1982 Oscar-nominated classic Blade Runner in the film, which is set 30 years after the original.

He said, “It’s not pressure, it’s a blessing. But for me, I do everything that I do to the full extent like it’s the last one. I feel an obligation to [surpass] Captain Phillips — that’s my goal. So every time I have an opportunity, I like to do what I can, because I’m all about this [career].”

In Blade Runner 2049Barkhad — who’s also known for Eye in the Sky (2015) and will team up with Evan Peters in the drama Dabka later this year — joins forces with Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de ArmasDave Bautista and Blade Runner alum Harrison Ford.

The much buzzed-about film opens October 6, 2017.
