Cirque du Soleil photo by Julie AucoinA performer with Cirque du Soleil has died after falling from a trampoline during a rehearsal in Montreal last Friday. The Cirque issued a statement Saturday saying Oleksandr Zhurov, a 24-year-old Ukrainian, had died. Zhurov hit his head when he fell off a trampoline and was unconscious when he was rushed to hospital by ambulance. “Today, it is all of Cirque that is in mourning,” said Guy Laliberté, the troupe’s founder. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sacha. My thoughts are with his parents and his family, to whom I offer my deepest sympathy.”

This is very unfortunate, but its a dangerous thing they are doing and mistakes are made from time to time. Rest in peace Oleksandr Zhurov.

Guy lalib should offer more than his sympathies. Cirque du soleil rate of accidents is unacceptable, they need to create safer working conditions.
