Erykah Badu Malaysia concert cancelled

American R&B singer Erykah Badu was set to perform tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, but plans changed when Muslim groups proclaimed Badu’s image inappropriate for young Malaysians. The singer’s concert was banned after a photo surfaced of Badu covered in symbolic temporary tattoos, one of which was the Arabic word for Allah written on her bare shoulder. According to Information Minister Rais Yatim, the photo, which was used as an advertisement for her upcoming concert, had “triggered public criticism that could jeopardize national security and cause a negative impact to the government’s image.” Razman Razali, Malaysian Managing Director  of Pineapple Concerts, says he hopes the ban will be lifted. For the time being, Badu is allowed to remain in the country as a tourist but she will not be performing. ~Kayla Thompson

What a stupid move on her her part…Why would you cover yourself in tattoos (even though they’re temporary) when you’re going to a conservative Muslim country?

    That sucks for the fans.

All this, excessive, religious conservatism is getting out of hand. I wish some folks learned to relax a little; it was just a temporary tattoo, and it didn”™t sound very disrespectful IMHO. As a Roman Catholic, I don”™t get hissy when I see folks with a Jesus tattoo.

You need to roll with the punches rather than start wars everytime life goes askew.

You’re going to their country so you should respect their customs and beliefs..many muslims don’t believe in marking their body with tattoos so displaying a picture like that, especially with the Allah symbol, is a little disrespectful if you ask me.
