Adam Lambert a clear winner on eBay

By Alexandra Heilbron on May 15, 2009 | 59 Comments

adam_lambertNot only have more people downloaded American Idol finalist Adam Lambert’s  songs on iTunes than those of the other contestants, but there are also hundreds more Adam Lambert items on sale at eBay. The auctions include a wide variety of items, including a locket that supposedly contains a lock of Adam’s hair (hm, he has had several trims since being on the show) that’s currently going for over $200,  watches, shower curtains, poker chips, T-shirts and mouse pads with his photo on them, just to name a few of the 773 items up for sale. In comparison, there are 74 Kris Allen items at eBay at the same time and 81 for Danny Gokey, who was voted off American Idol this week. ~Alexandra Heilbron

And no wonder, Adam is awesome!!!

  2. Jo-Anne • May 15, 2009 @ 5:44 PM

adam always has been the top contender…not that I’d personally purchase any of this stuff but no surprise here…only surprise to me was Kris beating out Alison…

  3. tributegirl • May 15, 2009 @ 6:14 PM

Totally agreed, I was really surprised when Alison went, but she was great, belted out her song, while the tears were running. I was also surprised that Kris beat Danny.
Actually, I wouldn’t purchase any of this stuff either (but can’t wait for his first cd!), but I’m not surprised that he has more stuff on there than the others.

    Hi there,
I really believe that Adam is the very best and second was Allison its to bad the voters
she didn’t come in behind Adam it really broke my heart because she could really sing what a voice God bless her soul.
    Bye for now
    Maddalena

  5. Jo-Anne • May 16, 2009 @ 4:21 PM

agree, Madeleine, I would have loved to see the final between those two, would have even preferred Danny over Kris…I think the remaining too are miles apart in singing talent alone…but Allison/Adam would have been a great finale

  6. DrDeb • May 17, 2009 @ 10:10 AM

I’m glad Allison didn’t have to compete against Adam; she said she loves him like a brother, and I think that would have been difficult for both of them.

Although Danny isn’t in the running anymore, I think many kids will still look up to him as their American Idol because of all the great charity work he’s doing for them in the name of his late wife:

Can’t wait for the finale! 🙂

  7. mandee • May 17, 2009 @ 10:19 PM

i told you all, from the very start, before i even started watching (i only caught a glimpse of this guy singing) that he would be this years idol. do you remember tg? jo? and the worst part is, for every performance i see him do, the more im utterly in love with him. i havent ever saw anyone as talented as him, except for allison. and i completely agree, totally broke my heart when she was voted off. i think the 2 of them should have been the idolS. it should have been a tie this year lol. man, i would totally marry him. lol. i wouldnt buy his hair though. thats pushing it a bit far, no?

  8. Jim • May 18, 2009 @ 8:33 AM

I truly think Kris will sell more albums than any other on the show this year. Do I think he will win? No I don’t but in terms of success after the show, I think he will do better than any of them. I think Alison will be more successful than Adam because Adam is more broadway than American Idol. Don’t get me wrong – he is talented, perhaps one of the most talented, but not in the American Idol/pop star/musician kind of way. And Danny will be successful in the gospel circuit. Oh I love this show and I truly sound like a “know it all” as I re read this but I don’t even care.

  9. jo • May 18, 2009 @ 11:33 AM

Jim I think that Adam will sell more records because he is so unique and different from most male artist today and his recordings are selling more on itunes then anybody else this year which kind of proves he that alot of people like his music and what do you mean Adam is to Broadway? I don’t get it when people say that

  10. Jim • May 18, 2009 @ 12:16 PM

To each his or her own I guess but I think it is the hype of him that is selling on itunes and that will die out. What I mean by him being very Broadway is that he is a theatrical person. I don’t mean that in the sense that he has been in theatre projects before: I just feel he is more suited for that. His voice is more theatrical than mainstream and he puts a theatrical show on every time he is on a stage. He is unique and he is very talented. I just think he will thrive more in theatre where he can yell like he does in EVERY song. He pulled off a Rolling Stones cover perfectly at the beginning of the season but the yelling has continued in nearly every song he has done.

  11. jo • May 18, 2009 @ 12:25 PM

Jim its a rock wail not a yell and its extremely hard to do and he only does that live he tones it down on the recordings of the song and I don’t think that because his voice is suited for music theater doesn’t mean that its not great for records and I think he is the most authentic pop star on the show ever not rock star but he sounds very pop but thats just my opinion and I would like to hear your response to it

  12. Jim • May 18, 2009 @ 12:29 PM

My only response would be – how can you say that it is a rock wail but then turn around and say that he sounds very pop and that he is the most authentic pop star on the show ever – not rock star?? Doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

  13. jo • May 18, 2009 @ 2:04 PM

I am saying he is really pop rock not rock like nickleback but more like Micheal jackson

  14. Jim • May 18, 2009 @ 2:56 PM

Fair enough. I don’t agree, but I respect your opinion. I think it is funny though because I don’t like Adam Lambert but you just mentioned two of my “favourites” in the music industry. I realize they are two completely different genres but I love them both equally therefore I think it is funny the difference of opinions.

  15. Carol • May 18, 2009 @ 9:09 PM

I don’t watch it anymore. I’m still not over the fact that Clay Aikin came in 2nd over Reuben Stoddard. Although he (Reuben) was good, popularity overtook talent, and that was enough for me.

  16. tributegirl • May 19, 2009 @ 8:43 PM

Oh, Carol, you should watch the finale this week, Kris is great, but Adam is AMAZING!!!

  17. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 6:51 AM

Jim, I had that EXACT same conversation with my sons last night as we were watching the finale and I totally agree with you. I have been a huge Kris fan for the last few shows and think he has massive mainstream potential, specially if he tones down the John Mayerish style. Absolutely adore Adam as well but I just don’t see him selling tons of albums once the hype dies down. He’s like the son Elvis might have had if he’d of married Janis Joplin. What’s not to love?!! I’d go see him in any big show in a heartbeat (and I’d kill to see him do Phantom) but his own concert… I dunno.

  18. Jim • May 20, 2009 @ 8:18 AM

Oh there is no doubt I would go see him in a show as well. He is very talented but not in the “music industry” kind of way, I don’t think. Kris was amazing last night. I was disappointed with his song co-written by Kara but after hearing it afterward it really was very well done. As for Adam’s version of it I feel he screamed the whole thing and really was not very good at all. I do have to say though that I am very happy he chose Mad World as his successful song. I loved that song and think he did an amazing job on it…perhaps because it was the only song he didn’t scream to!!

  19. tributegirl • May 20, 2009 @ 3:57 PM

Sorry guys, but I have to disagree. I could see Adam in a band like Meatloaf or something, just something different. I thought Kris did great last night, but Adam, WOW!!! Can’t wait for the results tonight, I’m rooting for Adam, but really they both deserve to win.

  20. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 4:00 PM

Again, totally agree Jim! Adam should be a lot more selective about when to scream (like my personal favourites with this type of vocal range: Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, Robert Plant) instead of delivering most of the song at the top of his range. Then he’d acheive those truly killer “raise the hair on your arms” moments instead of (like in Kara’s song) getting kind of boring.
P.S. I don’t think this was a very good song.

  21. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 4:25 PM

Sorry tributegirl, your note wasn’t there when I posted. I think your Meatloaf comment is brilliant cause he WAS a theatrical singer whose songs seemed perfectly suited to Broadway to me. And he did have one massively popular album so maybe Adam DOES have a shot at a solo career! I’m rooting for Kris but, like you said, they both truly deserve to win!

  22. Nancy • May 20, 2009 @ 6:46 PM

Sorry, I have to disagree with ALL of you, LOL. I don’t like Adam AT ALL. He’s wayyyy too theatrical! I also don’t like his looks. He wears too much make-up and has a chubby babyface. If he’s truly lucky, maybe SOMEDAY he’ll be half as good as Meatloaf but if I were him, I wouldn’t hold my breath! They both have “okay” voices, in my opinion…although, I wouldn’t even download their songs for free. I stopped watching weeks ago. On a brighter note….Big Brother is coming soon!!

  23. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 7:37 PM

lol Nancy but gotta agree that Big Brother is MUST SEE TV!

  24. Nancy • May 20, 2009 @ 9:31 PM

Oh lily, I’m totally appalled! I turned the tv on a few minutes ago…just so happened to be on the channel that American Idol is on, and there before my eyes was none other than KISS!!! I LOVE KISS!!…Then I heard and saw that little “screamer” massacring the hell outta their songs!! Makes me sick…honestly!

  25. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 10:11 PM

OMG what an ABSOLUTLY AMAZING show!!! I agree with you Nancy that the Kiss song wasn’t a highlight but HOLY COW there were some MAGICAL moments!!! How about Alison and Cindy Lauper? Oh and I LOVE KRIS!!! I would totally buy that Keith Urban song (and is Keith looking buff or what?!) I know, I know, WAY too many capitals and exclamation marks but MAN AM I PUMPED!!! Great finale and I really do think most of those hundred million voters got it right!!!

  26. lily • May 20, 2009 @ 10:17 PM

Forgot to add best moment of the night according to my sons… Bikini Girl and Ryan’s comment about “I was going to ask you whats new but I think we all know…”
    LOL!

  27. mandee • May 21, 2009 @ 2:37 AM

that comment was totally priceless. i do disagree nancy, i think adam is amazingly talented. i think the only reason he wasnt the winner was because of the makeup and the gay rumors. and cindy lauper with allison iraheta? man, allison out sang cindy, HANDS DOWN ! SPECTACULAR finale !!!! i was surprised that kara sang and showed what shes got lol. i think it was a great night, everyone did a wonderful job…although i was very disappointed with how things turned out. i do not feel that kris should have won at all. hes not even in the same league as adam. that being said, i think that adam took the news very well, and i was happy to hear that they no longer took it as a competition but were just doing it for the fun of it. if adam hadnt of been in this years idol, i would have expected allison to win, and then kris. so, hes at least in my top 3. i still see adam going on to bigger and better things, and hopefully him and kris will continue to stay true to themselves and continue to be great singers. great night. i was so excited 😀

  28. demigod • May 21, 2009 @ 5:09 AM

I missed the final, but checked out the Kiss (ad nauseum) clip on YouTube..it was lame watching Randy and Paula getting into it..they’re not rockers. The Kiss songs were easy sing-alongs, so of course Adam would wail on them.

  29. Jim • May 21, 2009 @ 8:14 AM

Gay rumors? He is totally out of the closet gay and my brother (who is out as well) and I were talking about it and we don’t think it had an impact at all. Homophopic people would have voted against him and gay people would have voted for him just because of who he is and what his sexual preference is. It would have evened itself out because as my brother says there are just as many gay people in the world as there are straight just some are too afraid to be proud of themselves and admit it. 🙂

  30. Jo-Anne • May 21, 2009 @ 10:11 AM

I do believe America got it wrong…for a few weeks now, Kris is likeable in a lukewarm milk sorta way, but I guess time will tell, just like so many other Idols who have yet to surface in a big way…

loved Alison/Cyndi, also Keith Urban/Kris – the whole Kiss thing was dreadful, but then so are Kiss…

Adam will remain, chubby face and all and sporting pounds less make-up than his boring stage buddies…

  31. Nancy • May 21, 2009 @ 11:11 AM

At least KISS (who totally rock) only wear the make-up on stage…and it is part of and looks like a costume, whereas with Adam, his make-up is his everyday look and he wears more of it than most women.

  32. mandee • May 21, 2009 @ 1:48 PM

i dont see whats wrong with men wearing makeup. i think it makes him look hot lol. jim, i havent personally HEARD him say “im gay” so im not going to really assume anything. he could be into both men and women. either way, it doesnt matter if hes gay, straight, wears makeup or doesnt, i still think hes heading on to bigger and better things than american idol. 🙂

  33. Jim • May 21, 2009 @ 2:30 PM

mandee you are right, he didn’t come right out and say he was gay however he did acknowledge the pictures of him making out with men and when asked about them and asked directly “if he was gay” he said he was not embarassed by himself and he was who he was and wouldn’t lie about anything. I realize that is not a direct admission, but close enough in my eyes. And realisically, it is quite obvious. Personally I am totally accepting of everyone and everything and feel totally fine saying that he doesn’t really hide his sexual preference in terms of the “stereotypical” gay man. I have been around the gay community quite often, have brought my wife and children to participate in pride in many cities and can honestly say that he would fit right in. Some may say that is ignorant of me to say and some will bash me for those comments but I find that you can usually tell someone’s sexuality by the way they carried themselves. Heck my whole family knew my brother was gay long before he admitted it to us. It was obvious.
As for his talent, yes he is talented. No one can deny that. I don’t care if he wears make up or not. That is his choice but he is far from mainstream and personally I think his singing is screaming. That is my opinion. I will never buy one of his CD’s but I would go to a show in a heartbeat.

  34. Jo-Anne • May 21, 2009 @ 3:22 PM

mandee, you said that PERFECTLY, word for word, right on…

jim, gotta disagree with you, save the “screamingly obvious” cases, I believe many keep their sexual preferences/practices private…

I have actually come across (as others I know have as well) what I think would be screamingly obvious gays only to find out they were straight…I think labelling only what we perceive within ourselves to be a “gay” appearance can be inaccurate and only fits our preconceived images…

anyhow, mandee, love what you wrote.

  35. Kim • May 21, 2009 @ 3:31 PM

Carol, I totally agree, I couldn’t watch American Idol for a couple of years after Clay Aiken didn’t win. He clearly should’ve and has sold way more records than Ruben. I’m wondering if maybe in that case, people knew he was gay as well. I suspected, but didn’t care and don’t care that Adam’s gay either. I like when he doesn’t scream (like Mad World) and I think he did better when he chose songs in which he didn’t have to do that, but as a performer, he was so confident and entertaining, it was like he was a star already. And even when he screams, it just shows his vocal range, which is incredible. He should’ve won, and Danny should’ve been second. Either way, I think the top three are probably all getting recording contracts and IMO, this was by far the best season.

  36. Jim • May 21, 2009 @ 3:43 PM

So Jo-Anne are you saying you think he is straight? Just a question…..

  37. tributegirl • May 21, 2009 @ 3:43 PM

Well, true, they could be preconceived images, but I do think people can quite often sense if someone is gay or not. As for the results, I don’t think Adam’s sexuality had anything to do with it.
lily, the first time I saw Adam on there, Meatloaf was the type of band I saw him with, and I still see him that way.
I loved Adam’s performance with Kiss, as well as Kris’s performance with Keith Urban, but really, really didn’t like Alison’s performance with Cyndi Lauper, unfortunately. I think Alison is an amazing talent, and have always been a fan of Cyndi Lauper, but really didn’t like this one.
I still think Adam should have won, but am not disappointed with Kris, he just seems like such a sweetheart!

  38. tributegirl • May 21, 2009 @ 3:51 PM

Nancy, sorry but I have to totally disagree with you! Adam is awesome, I don’t care if he is gay or straight, I don’t care how much makeup he wears, that guy is an entertainer!!! Idol this year was just fantastic! I also have to disagree with you on Big Brother, that is one reality show I just could never get into, I see people lazing around the house enough as it is, I don’t want to watch other people doing the same thing on tv! lol

(anyone previously looking for proof that Nancy & I sometimes disagree on things but still get along, here’s your proof! LOL)

  39. mandee • May 21, 2009 @ 6:48 PM

thanks joanne. and kim, i agree. adams screaming is part of what makes him a brilliant singer. you are right jim, he should scream in EVERY song, but in some songs it totally fits. and if you are right that he is gay, well then im sorry if i seemed to come off as fighting with you. but, even with his statement, that doesnt mean hes gay. maybe he is just flamboyantly straight. its possible. or he could be bisexual. tributegirl, i agree that this years idol was amazing. ive never really been able to get into watching idol, and i got in pretty late in the season (i think top 7) but i am glad i did. i wish i had of saw it from the beginning because they were all so talented in their own way. well, except that one guy, he was talented in justin timberlakes way lol. i also agree that the cindy lauper song was terrible. i think that allison still sang it better than cindy, and that cindy seemed like a freak and a weirdo lol. i think that was the wrong song for the 2 of them, and the wrong artist for allison to be singing with. i hated that she sat in a chair for the whole song, they should have done something that showed more of allisons talent, as well as her vocals. im not a fan of kiss, but i enjoyed adams “screaming” for it. hehehe

  40. mandee • May 21, 2009 @ 6:50 PM

sorry jim, i meant he SHOULDNT**** scream. i dont know how i missed the nt.

  41. Nancy • May 21, 2009 @ 6:59 PM

When he screams, his tongue comes out…I find it hilarious.

  42. tributegirl • May 21, 2009 @ 7:26 PM

mandee, I agree, I didn’t like Alison & Cyndi sitting through their song either, and I think it was to mild for them. If they had of done something more energetic, I think they would have been paired up wonderfully. Cyndi seemed like a freak and a weirdo, because she IS a freak and a weirdo, always has been, that’s part of her charm!

  43. lily • May 21, 2009 @ 9:56 PM

Sorry to disagree with all of you that didn’t like the Alison/Cyndi matchup. I really, really loved it. And totally agree tributegirl on the whole “charm” comment. For my final totally agree statement, I’m a BIG fan of pretty much all Jim’s opinions as written above! The few gay people I know are freinds of my sons and its completely obvious. I was even positive about one of them long before he came out (and so was everyone else who knew him).

  44. mandee • May 21, 2009 @ 10:43 PM

ohh, i wasnt sure tg because ive never saw cindy preform before. and nancy, i was wondering why he sticks his tongue out when he screams, but it makes me laugh too lol.

  45. demigod • May 22, 2009 @ 3:21 AM

Jim, your comments re Adam’s ‘screaming’ remind me of high school when I was picked on for being a metalhead. They’d say metal singers are just screaming/yelling and the music was just ‘noise’ lol.
I understand Adam is not your type of singer, but don’t dismiss his WAILING as screaming. It’s not easy to pull off as jo mentioned. Would you say Mariah Carey ‘screams’? Because she can hit those highs! And often (her early work). But obviously not in that rock context.

  46. Jim • May 22, 2009 @ 8:26 AM

Oh I never once said that Adam was not talented. I know that is not easy to do. I too was a metalhead in high school and I can be honest with myself and say that I was not all that good when I sang along to the songs I loved and still love to this day. In my opinion, Adam’s style is NOT metal. He did well alongside Kiss and Queen – are these bands the type that you consider metal? I guess it is possible to have a different opinion of metal music so that is an honest question.
And it is funny you brought up Mariah Carey – I CANNOT stand Mariah Carey. I find her whiney but I do find her talented. I can’t stand to listen to her music but I can admit when someone is talented and she is.

  47. Nancy • May 22, 2009 @ 10:57 AM

LOL mandee. I’m just glad it’s finally over! 8 months of peace ahead until we can giggle our @$$es off next Jan. to the best part of AI…the auditions. For the summer, I guess lily and I will be engrossed in all the backstabbing that goes on in the Big Brother house. I like watching the games the best though, you lily?

  48. Nancy • May 22, 2009 @ 11:00 AM

As for Mariah Carey, I’m no fan either, Jim. I do like her remake of Def Leppard’s ‘Bringing on the Heartbreak’ though.

  49. Jo-Anne • May 22, 2009 @ 11:01 AM

Jim, the question of his “straightness” never occurred to me…I don’t think it’s like a perfume you can sense and identify with a familiar face….from the get go I saw him as only an extremely talented (what I believed to deservedly be) shoe-in for the win…whether he chooses wears Polo Black or Chanel No. 5 the only thing I smell is a winner…

  50. Nancy • May 22, 2009 @ 12:33 PM

Well, I don’t even have to tell you what I smell!!! 😛

  51. Jo-Anne • May 22, 2009 @ 4:22 PM

hopefully something more than the 2-4 dregs as you toast yourself….

  52. Nancy • May 22, 2009 @ 4:51 PM

Actually, I walked past you and thought there was a nearby fish factory…then realized you just needed to close your legs! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  53. Jo-Anne • May 22, 2009 @ 5:09 PM

what was that Jim about “screamingly obvious”….hmmmmm….

  54. demigod • May 22, 2009 @ 5:14 PM

    Jim on May 22, 2009 8:26 AM

I just can’t see any true metalhead make the comment of ‘screaming’. You stated Michael Jackson as one of your faves? Talk about eclectic.
I never said Adam’s style was metal, but he can fit in a hard rock act ie. Kiss, Queen..

  55. Nancy • May 22, 2009 @ 5:16 PM

Jim can’t talk…he’s gagging on your smell. LMFAO!

  56. Jim • May 22, 2009 @ 6:59 PM

Oh trust me I can talk Nancy. Please don’t bring me into any of your bickering. I refuse to be involved and I mean that with all due respect and that comment goes for both of you.

    demigod on May 22, 2009 5:14 PM

I understand why my being a metalhead in high school comment and Michael Jackson being one of my faves is extremely strange and a little contradicting. I sometimes over look the fact that no one knows anything about me other than what I want them to know and what I have mentioned on this site. High School was an awfully long time ago for me. I still enjoy some metal such as AC/DC and Metallica but I used to be into it way more than I am now. I couldn’t even imagine myself going to an Iron Maiden concert but I can tell you that I went when I was a kid and LOVED it.
I have stated time and time again that I will be the first one to compliment and acknowledge talent and I love Michael Jackson for the talent aspect and his ability to put on a show…and ability that I am sure he has lost now!! I only wish I would have been into him when he came to town but unfortunately I wasted my time on a lot of concerts that I couldn’t even imagine going to now.
Sounds contradictory and I understand your questioning it. I probably would have questioned it myself but it is true. Apparently I have changed A LOT since my days in high school. 🙂

  57. Nancy • May 23, 2009 @ 1:16 PM

Sorry Jim…I only said that about you because Jo-Anne tried to bring you in by asking you a question. I never tried to bring you in, per say, I just answered her for you!

  58. lily • May 23, 2009 @ 6:03 PM

Hey looks like I’ve missed a lot in the past 24 hrs! Getting bored of this hole Adam thing and I still think he’s very unlikely to last as a big star unless he gets some very good coaching on how to use his amazing range to best effect. Nancy, happy belated birthday and yes, the games are my fave part on BB too. Wish it was starting tonite!!!

  59. Nancy • May 23, 2009 @ 6:56 PM

Thank you lily. I know, I wish they’d hurry up and get the show on already! Guess I’ll just have to settle for re-runs (refer to ‘Spiderman 3 Actress Committed Suicide’ article, Jo-Anne comment) LMAO! Oh well, as long as Seagram keeps making vodka coolers I guess I’ll be okay! Haha.
