Al Pacino honored by the president

Al Pacino has been honored with many awards in his career — an Oscar, a Tony, two Emmys, a BAFTA, and several Golden Globes to name a few. He’ll now have one more prestigious prize to add to his collection, courtesy of the President of the United States. In a ceremony held at the White House yesterday, the iconic 71-year-old actor was awarded with the National Medal of Arts for his many contributions over the years to film and theater; one of the many artists to leave “an indelible mark on American culture,” as Barack Obama put it. He went on to offer praise for the arts industry as a whole. “We are told we are divided as a people, then suddenly the arts have the power to bring us together. In moments of calm, as in moments of crisis; in times of triumph, as in times of tragedy: you help guide our growth as a people,” said the president. “The true power of the arts and humanities is that you speak to everyone. There is not one of us here who hasn’t had their beliefs challenged by a writer’s eloquence; or their knowledge deepened by a historian’s insights; or their sagging spirits lifted by a singer’s voice.”
Pacino’s successful career spans more than 40 years and he has starred in over 40 films. He can be seen next in the upcoming thriller, The Son of No One, alongside Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, and Katie Holmes. It’ll be available on DVD March 13.

Cheers to Al Pachino meeting the man who signed the NDAA. I have no respect for Obama anymore, he may as well be a black George Bush.
Maybe if Obama spent less time praising the arts and more time addressing real issues our country wouldn’t be so in the pits.
Well, good for him but I agree, Obama has some important issues to deal with and he should get down to some serious work and stop meeting celebrities.
It’s not like they’re going on a three week cruise together. I don’t think staying home from this one ceremony would’ve saved the USA.
