Barenaked Ladies’ frontman Steven Page has had his felony cocaine possession charge dropped to a misdemeanor. He was also granted “an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal,” meaning that the charges he’s facing could be dismissed altogether if he stays away from drugs for the next six months and undergoes regular drug screenings. Page, 38, was arrested last July in New York when police found him in possession of cocaine last July. “This type of result allows accused with determination and a positive attitude to overcome his or her mistake and avoid the catastrophic consequences of a criminal conviction, while at the same time being a very positive thing for the community,” Mark Mahoney, Page’s lawyer, said in a statement.

actually, i think you are all misunderstanding, it isn’t that he’s famous, its that he is wealthy. the police understand that a wealthy person can be caught with large quantities of illegal drugs because they can afford to buy large amounts at a time on account of their financial success. you might be saying, well a cocaine dealer has a lot of money too, but the difference is that drug money is unaccounted for by the government, and thats what it really comes down to, the authorities understand that the barenaked lady is a wealthy musician who chances are, doesnt need to sell cocaine, in order to cover a mortgage, unlike struggling comedian Tim Allen, who simply ratted out his dealer. so don’t hate celebrities, because they’re people too, hate your government, because rule of law isn’t a person.

Tom, I hear what you’re saying but we’re not talking about the source of the drug money, but possession of narcotics. Possession is possession. Whether you’re rich or not, should have no bearing on the charges. This IS bullshit. Btw, so much for this chumps squeaky clean image..
