Benedict Cumberbatch was honored with a CBE from Britain's Queen Elizabeth today.
The
Sherlock star arrived at Buckingham Palace in London with his wife Sophie to receive his accolade - Commander of the Order of the British Empire - from the 89-year-old monarch after he made it onto the Birthday Honours List for his work as an actor and his charitable efforts.
Benedict, 39, admitted afterwards that he was riddled with nerves before meeting the queen and being presented with his honor.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: ''It's fantastic, it's quite nerve-racking, there is nothing really that prepares you for it. It's a unique occasion and I feel very privileged to be here and flattered to be recognized in this way. It was wonderful, it was the first time I've ever met her and to meet her and be honored by her was extraordinary.''
Meanwhile, it's been a busy year for the handsome actor as he's just wrapped up his three-month stint as Hamlet in the Shakespearean production at the Barbican in London.
The 12-week project managed to raise an estimated £150,000 for the Save the Children charity.
He also married his long-time lover Sophie in a romantic ceremony in March following a two-month engagement, and the pair welcomed their first child, son Christopher, in June.
And the star shows no signs of slowing down any time soon as he's currently filming upcoming
Marvel's Doctor Strange, set for release in 2016.
