Watch this really strange, somewhat cheesy commercial featuring Brad Pitt. He says several meaningless lines, and then Chanel No. 5 perfume for women is featured. He does a good job with the incredibly tepid material, which is obviously meant to be profound, but what the hell is it supposed to mean? And why did Pitt agree to do something this laughable? He definitely doesn't need the money. Here's a sample of the drivel he has to spout: "It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on... Plans disappear, dreams take over." Fox News wrote that the commercial is "embarrassing," saying Pitt “looks a little embarrassed: probably because he knows bad writing when he hears it.” Hollywood.com wrote: “His eyes dart all around the set like a hummingbird on a Red Bull bender. If I had to read this script, I’d have a hard time looking you in the eyes, too." Twitter and Youtube comments include: "So pretentious!" and "WHAT were they thinking?? So strange." Time magazine’s Erik Hayden said Pitt's  “vaguely existential monologue" is "nonsensical.”

I think that it's funny - in a good way. It makes you think, most will watch the video at least a couple of times....inevitable. Kind of reminds me of Hansel from Zoolander, "I care desperately about what I do. Do I know what product I'm selling? No. Do I know what I'm doing today? No. But I'm here, and I'm gonna give it my best shot."

Hope the paycheck was worth it because that is just embarrassing. It's a little creepy too...

I'm sure he saw the dialogue before he agreed to do it but couldn't pull it off. If he's that creative, why didn't he improvise or use his lines better. He's trying to be deep and sexy -fail!!

Whimsical...just like the perfume itself...it fits.

I don't care what people think... I love him!

  12. DP on October 18, 2012 2:14 PM

Read he was paid $6.5 million to do that piece of garbage-WTF!!!!

Have these people ever seen a perfume ad? They're almost always stupid, with gorgeous people spouting inane dialogue. Ever seen Scarlett Johansson's dopey perfume commercial, it's just as dumb and pretty. So the Brad Pitt one is no different, it's a typical beautifully shot, stupid sounding perfume ad, with a good looking spokes model.

Brad would have been far better off just sitting shirtless on a horse with NO words... That's what I'd like to see!

  15. Rene Jansen on October 18, 2012 5:40 PM

I could talk like that, for only $1,000,000

  16. Mitch Pitre on October 18, 2012 8:48 PM

I agree with Diana. It would have been a lot better to see him shirtless, sitting on a horse, keeping his mouth shut. 100% better in fact.

  17. Rita on October 19, 2012 9:26 AM

He spoke the lines well, but they didn't make sense! The ad wouldn't get me go out and buy it!!

  18. TheTruth on October 19, 2012 1:03 PM

Hilarious, hes on the verge of bursting out hysterically throughout the recording.

Chanel ads have always been filled with polished luxurious fantasy.

With the badly wrinkled shirt, uncombed hair and scruffy beard Brad's far from anybody's fantasy.

    Make an effort Chanel!

Here's what you do: put Brad in a nice suit and sunglasses and have him waiting at a lovely outdoor cafe. Make him look like he's waiting anxiously for someone, perhaps Angelina, perhaps his secret girlfriend (that would be me.)

With more interesting visuals this spoken text would fit right in, no matter how cryptic.

  20. Kelly on October 19, 2012 10:14 PM

Who cares what he's saying? He is ugly now and WAY past his prime--get someone actually SEXY and DESIRABLE, Chanel...

  21. Barb on October 20, 2012 8:36 AM

Did anyone notice the lighting was all over the place and the whole scene kinda left me feeling anxious. It felt like there was something overwhelmingly negative going on... like mental illness or something... then Chanel #5... but whoah.. it may be one of my favorite perfumes but this makes me wanna Run Away... Run Far far Away ... from (it)! Be afraid.. be very afraid.

  22. a fan on October 21, 2012 6:06 PM

Everyone is talking about it are they not... good publicty for Channel... video is everywhere..

  23. Laurie on October 22, 2012 3:24 PM

    He looks uncomfortable and embarrassed.
