Brittany Murphy’s father criticizes Lifetime biopic

Brittany_MurphyDrama and mystery seem to surround Brittany Murphy‘s family, and her Lifetime biopic hasn’t helped the situation. Brittany’s father Angelo Bertolotti is outraged that The Brittany Murphy Story claims to be a true story. The flick makes many claims some are now questioning and one claim was easy to disprove. The story said Angelo had not been in Brittany’s life since she was two, but Angelo quickly proved the statement false by posting multiple photos of himself with his daughter. Although Sharon didn’t want Brittany to have any communication with her father after their divorce, Angelo claims he always looked after Brittany and her mother. “I was always a part of Brittany’s life and supported both her and her mother.”

Angelo was also offended by the casting, noting, “Amanda Fuller, the girl playing Brittany, looks absolutely nothing like her. To make a film about Brittany’s life and death, while her true cause of death is pending re-investigation, is in extremely poor taste. It’s completely inappropriate…. They turned my child’s life and death into a sick, cheaply thrown together spectacle. A real life tragedy will be viewed as a joke, bad wigs and all.” He concluded by saying, “There’s no truth in Lifetime’s TV movie, but it will be told someday and the story does not end here.”

Brittany Murphy died December 20, 2009 and first it was believed to be of natural causes, but then was deferred” pending toxicology reports. Angelo believed the death to be suspicious and had further tests done to find the cause of his daughter’s death. Pathologist Cyril Wecht has said murder cannot be excluded with two independent laboratories finding high levels of poisons and toxins in Brittany’s blood. The investigation into her death is ongoing, as is that of her husband Simon Monjack, who died in their West Hollywood home of the same causes on May 23, 2010. ~Andrea Hodgins
