Charlie Hunnam rumored to be quitting Fifty Shades of Grey

By Tribute on October 3, 2013 | 14 Comments

Unsubstantiated reports claim that actor Charlie Hunnam may step down from the role of Christian Grey in the upcoming adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey, according to cosmopolitan.com. Charlie is best known for his work on the FX television series Sons of Anarchy and this summer’s blockbuster Pacific Rim. He signed on to star opposite Dakota Johnson, who has been cast in the role of Anastasia Steele. The reports stem from the overwhelming negative reaction by fans to the film’s casting — a petition from Change.org calls for him to be replaced with Matt Bomer and has thus far amassed 75,000 signatures. Despite the fans’ negative reaction, producer Dana Brunetti and author E.L. James stand by their choice to cast Hunnam — despite the reports/rumors, it’s unlikely he’ll give up this plum role. ~Raj-Kabir Birk

I think it will flop but regardless, he’d have to be crazy to bow out at this point.

still wondering how they are going to show an X-rated movie in public theaters lol

Who cares. And besides the theatre version will be super lame and tame and then they will make more $ off the ladies with the blu-ray unrated version.
In a way I hope these movies are made. Why? I’m sick of women saying movie nudity is all geared towards men and that’s why there is more boobies shown. I think Magic Mike and 50 Shades is geared towards women so now we can cite those movies in an argument 🙂 Thanks Hollywood.

Hey people, you can own a book, but you do not own the characters.

    NO!!!!!!
These people and their stupid petitions need to bugger off.
He was given the role and deserves it.
    Can’t make everyone happy.
I think the petitions are a bunch of childish crap, change.org is used for petitions of value not BS like this.

And for the record, this guy is WAY more suited for the role than Matt Bomer!

He’s smart to be getting out. Who studies and works so hard to become a serious actor and then gets involved in a piece of trash like this. Whom ever takes this role will be sorry, as they will probably lose a lot of respect for their craft.

If I was Hunnam, I’d think twice before taking the role of Christian Grey.

1st – the movie will not be able to fully reflect the sexual content shown in the book. Thus the movie will be some-what disappointing.

2nd – Already over 75 000 wanted some other actor to portray Christian Grey. So even before he attempts this role, he’s already been blacklisted by thousands.

3rd – If Hunnam does take this role, he (and Dakota) will have to go beyond the expected norm of this role in order to been accepted as Christian Grey. Otherwise not only will the movie fail but his career will be touched. People don’t forget you in bad roles. So even if Hunnam does a good job but Dakota (which I believe is totally wrong for the role of Anastasia) sucks then this will also reflect on Hunnam.

Taking on this role is going to be a major risk taking adventure for both of them, relative to their careers as actors.

I think Charlie Hunnam is a great choice for the role hes definitely a fresh new face to watch and he is a very talented actor, I can’t wait to see him in the film

I am not a fan of these books at all but speaking from an objective point of view, i think that it would be a stupid choice to leave the role because of the books dumb fans. If Hollywood movies cater too much to what the fans want, then the movies just become a mess and in the end, no one wins. The studio obviously have faith in Hunnam so they just need to stick to their gun and the fans just need to shut their mouths and wait to judge the movie AFTER it’s released.

He is fine, but DAKOTA needs to quit!! My only thing with Charlie is that he isn’t nearly beautiful enough to play Christian, and he’s already 6 yrs older than the character and will only keep looking older. Dakota though is a complete 180 of the character in the book and hair dye and wardrobe cannot fix it for Dakota. Dakota is not the beautiful, petite, doe-eyed, youthful Ana described in the books. She is the opposite. Dakota looks old for her age and worn as if she’s been around the block, her face is too angular and her features are elongated, her teeth are gross, she has a five head, and she is way too tall. She seriously needs to be replaced! Casting her was an insult to the character…though she was probably their last resort…probably the only actress they could get who was willing and available. We’ve already learned that both of them weren’t their first choices too.

Blah….DUMB FANS! Who do you think made these books so popular & made the creation of the movie possible….the one’s you call “Dumb Fans”.
Just because thousands of people loved reading these books, and not you, does not make them DUMB.
