Charlie Sheen back on medication

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen is back on his HIV medication. The 50-year-old actor admitted in a pre-taped segment for an appearance on The Dr. Oz Show earlier this week he had stopped the treatment his own doctor had advised him on in order to seek alternative therapy in Mexico, under the care of Dr. Sam Chachoua, but after the ”numbers [went] back up,” he has returned to conventional medicine.

His manager, Mark Burg, said: ”Just to be clear, Charlie put his life at risk for a doctor who claimed to have a cure for HIV. When it didn’t work he immediately went back on his medication.” The former Anger Management actor is planning to return to Dr. Oz’s show for another episode.

His manager told People magazine: ”Charlie is not being paid for doing The Dr. Oz Show. For now, he is doing one more episode of the show where he talks about what he’s learning about the disease.

”[He will also be discussing] how he is taking a holistic medical approach to strengthen his immune system and meeting various doctors and researchers regarding HIV in a future episode.” Charlie – who went public about his HIV status last November – admitted he had been ”risking his life” in stopping his medication.

He said: ”I’m been off my meds for about a week now. Am I risking my life? Sure. So what? I was born dead. That part of it doesn’t bother me at all.” However, he admitted that he now has detectable traces of HIV in his blood, after previously having an undetectable amount. He said: ”I’m a little off my game because right before I walked out here, I got some results I was disappointed about. I had been non-detectable, non-detectable and checking the blood every week and then found out the numbers are back up.”

Charlie, you weren’t born dead, you were born alive. If you don’t keep taking your medication you’ll be dead – that is the difference. I’m sure there are significant side effects to the cocktail you have to take but what is alternative? Take your meds, put a tuque on before you go out to play and keep everyone healthy.
