Oscar nominee slams Jennifer Lawrence

jennifer_lawrenceOnce promising film actress Chloë Sevigny is throwing shade at the girl everyone wants to hang out with – and you have to understand her history to get how ridiculous that is.

In an interview with V magazine, Chloë praised Angelina Jolie and Emma Stone, but had strong opinions on Jennifer Lawrence.

“I think Angelina Jolie is a great movie star,” she said. “I don’t think I can be that, or just be an actor. I don’t think I have the charisma. Which is probably why I never reached another level. I like Emma Stone. Whenever she’s herself, she’s really cute. Jennifer Lawrence I find annoying. Too crass.”

In case you don’t know who she is, Chloë starred in the movie The Brown Bunny, in which she performed oral sex on director and fellow actor, Vincent Gallo. Famed film critic Roger Ebert called it: “The worst movie in the history of the [Cannes film] festival.”

However, Chloë previously said, “It’s an art film. It should be playing in museums.” Unfortunately, hundreds of people walked out of the screening at Cannes and the ones who stayed, reportedly did so only to boo. Since then Chloë has mostly appeared in small budget films and TV shows.

Looking back on her own career, which hasn’t been particularly lucrative, she told the magazine she’s afraid people will think she has more personality than acting ability. “I would like to be respected as an actress,” she added.

Jennifer will undoubtedly take these comments in stride. After all, she does have her Oscar to console her. We, however, have to disagree with Chloë’s comments on J-Law and think they’re downright ridiculous. Let us know what you think. ~Sandra D. Sukraj

She was good in Boys Don’t Cry.

  2. Lee Ann • March 12, 2015 @ 10:15 AM

Chloe is a very good actress in most things I’ve seen her in. She was great in the series Big Love and also in American Horror Story – Asylum!

Opinions are just that – opinions. Not everybody out there will find J-Law that interesting, so finding Sevigny’s comments ridiculous is actually more ridiculous. You can say she’s spectacularly hypocrital for calling the kid ‘crass’, but that’s about it.

I recall the late great Katharine Hepburn straight-up hating Meryl Streep, seeing her as overrated and boring… ‘Gonna call that ‘ridiculous’ too, Sandra, or just agree that this was her own, personal opinion?

J-Law. that’s annoying to have someone make shorten your name to 4 letters.

    Thank you mightymad!!

Thanks for your opinion, MightyMad! 🙂

    Jennifer Lawrence is the best!

  8. Vanessa • March 12, 2015 @ 12:23 PM

I actually agree with her opinion of Jennifer Lawrence and I really don’t know why everyone is in love with her. I do find her a bit crass and she seems way too overconfident. I don’t like her as a personality and find her overrated as an actress.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

Just in case you mistook this for journalism of any kind, some extreme bias to set you straight! Thank you Jennifer Lawrence’s mom, but we can form our own opinions.

Chloe is an interesting actress that has made risky career choices, we can decide for ourselves whether the performance is in the name of art or not. Awarding an Oscar to J-Leau shows the ceremony to be ridiculous, many talented actors have been passed over for works that have influenced film forever. She may go on to do some good work, but it would serve her better to wait and reward her justly.

    I agree 100% Ceadat!

What I think? I think Tribute demeans itself by carrying this non-story. Is it so difficult to find something to write about to catch readers’ attention? Go out on the street and ask a street sweeper what he thinks of ISIS or Obama or Clark Gable. And if he doesn’t give you an interesting answer make one up. Give us a break.

I really only vaguely know who Cloe is but I am not a JLaw fan and hated Silver Linings Playbook. I watched it a second time to give it another chance but it fell flat.
Couldn’t believe Bradley Cooper would do such trash. JLaw was pretty much what I think she is in real life, crass, brash and undignified. I can’t imagine her ever winning another Oscar

I think the article is spot on. Chloe Sevigny is a wannabe who just never made it, so she had to perform oral sex on camera to get a role. Undoubtedly she does that off camera for producers/directors as well in order to get work. By contrast, Jennifer Lawrence is an incredible actress who constantly gets work in major films.

I don’t get some of you people who make comments about how these types of stories aren’t ‘real journalism’ and that Tribute shouldn’t carry this stuff. Do you think that you are reading Time magazine or National Geographic? It’s a freaking entertainment site! What else are they going to cover? (And that’s beside the fact that I saw this story picked up by other news chains where you might have an argument about the relevance of the story). And while I am on it @Kaney, I thought that Silver Linings Playbook was an excellent movie that got Bradley Cooper an Oscar nomination for his role. He performed very well in it. And Jennifer Lawrence is beautiful. Seen her in enough interviews to form an opinion that she is just herself and doesn’t put on heirs. If that is crass, then I like it. 🙂

    I agree with you David!

In fact I think Ms. Sevigny isn’t a consummately good and yes, a brave actress. The Piritannical BS in this English speaking world is more the problem than this artist’s work. Brown Bunny I saw twice. It was a very powerful film on depression and dark inner voices and for those that only saw it or as some sort of porn are lacking in the e,optional openness to understand it. The sexual aspsect’of this film is homest and if one considers what people do with one another in the infinite variety of human behaviour this is small stuff and if there are those that are repelled by honesty..too bad. Get real folks. With respect to this fine actress’s role in Big Love which was a terrific series by the way, she was perfect for it. Television, folks, is the medium that good actors gravitate to more and more which might not be what the movie industry wants but it is a reality. Get with it. I will wait and watch whatever Ms. Sevigny is asked to act in. She chooses well. The word mesmerizing comes to the fore on thinking of her. She is a true artist. Jennifer Lwrence? I saw her interviewed on TV and saw but a pretty very young and totally uninhibited, young woman. Good for her. When she gets a bit more of real life in her, perhaps she will make films I will want to see. So far..nope. Her fame means to me…nothing. It is yet to become art. Sevigny has only made art to the contrary.

    Right on, David!

Jennifer Lawrence does not take herself seriously. If there is anyone overrated, it is Chloe Sevigny. The only reason she’s getting any attention is because of her negative comments on someone very popular. I, and many, many others would have never heard of her if not for the said comments.

Had she said something good about J. Lawrence, it would not have rated any commented. Chloe was smart to pick J. Lawrence to get the media attention.

  18. Shame • March 12, 2015 @ 5:17 PM

Wow. Shaming someone for performing a sexual act. So that automatically discredits her for the rest of her life? Non-journalism. I’m embarassed for wasting my time at tribute.ca

  19. Tess • March 13, 2015 @ 12:48 AM

I don’t think the so-called sexual act put Chloe on the film industry’s “shaming list”…lol, if they even have one considering others have made much worse choices and lived to act again as it were.

Unfortunately, for Ms. Sevigny, it’s her lack of intellectual acumen in continuing to confuse “Fellini with Fellatio” that has lent her little credence as a serious actor.

Throwing dirt on others will only serve to dig the hole deeper for herself.

  20. louididdy • March 15, 2015 @ 4:36 AM

J-Law is the real deal and real freaking cute!!

  21. louididdy • March 15, 2015 @ 4:39 AM

She can’t hate on J-Law she’s the one who will be known as the chick who gives blowjobs.

  22. Egyptian queen • March 15, 2015 @ 8:30 PM

I find that it’s sour grapes cause she never made it. I love Jennifer Lawrence, she is so real and no pretention there. She is also a very good actress. I find her very refreshing not crass as Chloe said, she is a happy go lucky gal and she tells you how it is, no two ways about it. Well, I believe that people who think J-Law is crass does not know what they’re talking about. Go Jennifer!!!

  23. Iqa 😁 • April 15, 2015 @ 6:39 PM

I agree with you egyptian queen ! Go Jennifer Lawrence!
