The British paper The Daily News is reporting that the alleged altercation between Christian Bale and his mother and sister had to do with money. Sharon Bale, who has three children, seems to be having financial trouble and she and her mother showed up at his hotel in London to ask Christian for $200,000. The actor refused, which resulted in a nasty argument between him and the two women. Since then, Bale showed up for premiere of his new movie, The Dark Knight, in Barcelona, and willingly signed autographs for fans, but did not speak to reporters about the assault charges. Next up, he’ll fly to Japan with his wife and daughter for the movie’s premiere in Tokyo on Monday. Once the press tour is completed, Bale is scheduled to return to the set of Terminator Salvation in New Mexico, to resume filming.

As far as i know Bale is not very close to that part of the family. If fact i read it has been 20 years with very little contact. If my family, (much the same as Bale’s family) showed up at my door out of the blue to ask for that kind of money i would do about the same. The fact they went to the police to get him charged in spite is, to be honest sickening. But Success has it’s down side, sure you get the fame and money as well as respect but at the same time you get all the nasty people crawling out of the wood work. I’m a huge fan of Bale and am in a way very glad to hear he didn’t hit his mother, instead reacted much as i would have.
Well, big surprise his mommy was after his money….NOT!!!!!!!!

how sad people were SO quick to condemn him. Had him tried, guilty and ready to lock him up, imagine that! And ALL on the strength of an accusation alone.
Hopefully these people never see jury time.
P.S. I know that this could possibly not be a true story as some have said, i could be covered up. I mean..what would i know, i know what i read and thats about it..lol But i am trying to think more positive than negative. I don’t want to believe he did something as bad as hitting his mother as I’m sure most wouldn’t.

Well, I am the one who stated that there are 3 sides to every story and I still believe we haven’t heard everything yet. Amazing how some people jump straight on Bale’s bandwagon as soon as money is brought up. Get this, something that was left OUT of the article above is that ‘supposedly’ after asking for the £100,000 to help raise his 3 nieces, Bale pushed and shoved the two ladies. If we do ever get the truth, which I don’t believe we will, it won’t be until after he returns to police in September. Either way, he has admitted to being verbally abusive and he had the option to just say “No” and close the door. With all the fans and paparazzi outside the hotel, I am sure Bale had security and I am sure the hotel itself would have provided some security…have them removed from the premises…??? Doesn’t really sound that hard. They didn’t just walk into his hotel….security would have had to contact Bale to see if it was ok to let them in to see him and if they are estranged then why would he allow them in? All these new stories just don’t add up people…use your heads!!

I agree, the whole story will probably never come out, so we can all pass judgement, but at the end of the day, the only ones who know what really happened are Bale, his mother and his sister.

Aw, I hope he didn’t do that… he always seemed like a really nice guy, I thought. But I don’t know him personally, so… anyhow, like you guys said, we may never know what really happened.

Every think that there is a possibility that a woman so manipulative to have pulled a stunt like this hotel incident might be “off” just enough to have her daughter punch her to manipulate the situation even further to pull off her temper tantrum? Don’t judge people based on what the media says.
Still, as a big hollywood star, he has loads of money. Family or not, I don’t think it would have killed him to help his sister out with some cash. He has it, she needs it. It would make a huge difference to her life, and absolutely none to his. It seems the decent thing to have done.
Once you give some, they will come for more…
I have family like that too and they are my inlaws. Money or not if he has not had a relationship with his family for awhile, I think they were quite nervy to even ask him and that is a lot of money. Also does the sister not work or anything or was she laying back, spending what she didnt have, waiting for her brother to rescue her because she knew this Batman was going to rake in the money
He probably has already given them lots of money over the years and is now fed up. You try to help your relative(s) but at some point you have to say enough is enough. And if they thought they had any chance of getting money from him well they better forget it now. After draging their family business to the police, they will not see a penny now.
Regarding having him taken into custody first before finding the truth is how British law is handled. If a charge is brought up against you, you would be arrested first before being judged. It was mentioned that he turned himself in.
I think that it was wrong for his mother and sister to show up in such a public place to request for money. Perhaps that was their intention, to corner him into meeting their demands. If he refused, they claimed that he did them wrong by assaulting them.
I don’t know much about him but if he has an estranged relationship with his family, this certainly sounds like they are taking advantage of him because of his success.
The thing that bothers me most about this is that stories from around the world are dumbed down for us readers (not that we always make much a case for objection). If they’re from wales, and the altercation is in London, of all things – why would they be looking for DOLLARS!? Give it to us straight, and if you must, throw in a quick basic conversion to give context – don’t further dumb down the lot of us into thinking there IS only one currency.
From the interviews I have seem, it seems Bale is generally not a happy person. I hope he finds the strength to figure all of this past family stuff out and maybe he can stop being angry. In my experience, ignoring it doesn’t work because it comes out in other ways. Deal with it and find some peace. Good Luck!
Jam, I really like your take on this. Seems to me the family may be attempting to take huge advantage of his success. Once spurned, all the dirt comes out against him.

Time and time again, it has been reported that he did not violently hit or even touch his sister and mother. Screaming and yelling perhaps and if someone said “shoving” or “pushing”, well that could mean anything. True, no one will ever know the true story but what kind of a mother and sister, who has an estranged relationship to Bale to begin with, show up on the night of a huge premiere demanding money and then filing a police report (when they didn’t get their way) when they know full well how it would get blown out of proportion in the media and how it would hurt him and his career. There are proper ways to discuss things (heck like spare me $200,000???) and his family seems like a real circus act, no? Just real classy ladies.
If there was assault, wouldn’t he be arrested right away? Wouldn’t he be charged? Wouldn’t we be seeing pictures of the bruised and banged up ladies? I know a thing or two about dysfunctional families and even then it would take a lot, like a genuine fear for my life or safety, before I would call the police.
Nancy, it’s not that easy to just call up the hotel security. Second, not all celebrities have body guards.

Bale was staying at that hotel because he was there for the premiere of the biggest movie of the year so far! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that either Bale hired his own security (you said body guards…not me), or the movie’s production company hired them for him but, no matter what, that hotel would definately have security especially with all the fans outside as previously stated in the Bale articles, and for someone as popular as Bale…you can bet they would be there for him in a heartbeat!!!
Even in canada, if someone accuses you of abuse and the cops are called you are charged and put into jail. It doesn’t mean he is guilty.
I heard that he screamed at them. Maybe he just said no, walked away and then his mother or sister grabbed his arm and to get away he yanked his arm away or grabbed their hand and pushed it away. Assault can mean several things, it all depends on the way the mother and sister think of it.
Just because he is at a movie premiere doesn’t mean he needed security. And they might be around but might not have been right next to him since it was his family after all.

It’s so sad that families can’t get along. Even if he previously gave or not, the kind, humane thing to do would be to give them at least something, especially if one can afford it.
Things are never as they seem. Statistics from the Ontario government say that 98% of physical and sexual abuse charges by wives against their husbands in child custody divorce cases have been proven to be false. Outright lies! I am very sure that CB is the victom of such chicanery or evil lies. Revenge. That’s what most people know and use. “You won’t help me? Then I’ll hurt you for that.”
The supposed fact that CB has had differences with his sister and mother in the past clearly shows that the women have been evil to him in the past. Otherwise he would be more generous to them now. Their reporting and charging him with assault also proves how evil the women really are. A clear case of hostily and evil revenge by the women, not by CB. They are just using the state to enact their revenge on him, hoping that no one would notice what they are really doing.
Most suffering in the world throughout this world’s whole history has been perpetrated by people breaking the 9th commandment, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour”. 100′s of millions of people have been killed because of someone’s false accusations against them.
The media is controlled by the power elite. They look on us as cattle. They print only lies. Never, ever believe anything they say! Do your own research.
I wish the media wouldn’t publish these stories. Why is it because someone is in the public eye, suddenly everything they do becomes public knowledge. Instances like these are none of our business. It doesn’t affect our lives; it doesn’t change anything for us. But for actors like Christian Bale, the constant speculation could have lasting effects on his reputation.
All of these gossip mags and gossip shows are just an insult to your intelligence. It’s not journalism and the stories are always speculative. Put your brain to use and think about what really matters.

Tribute girl. While you may think you’re right, you’re not. I didn’t read the article. I simply opened the link and went directly to this posting area. I knew of the story when it was plastered across CNN. I don’t read these articles, never have. I don’t buy the trash mags and I don’t watch the gossip shows. I think it’s all a bunch of crap. I’m thankful for their entertainment (the actors), but beyond that, I don’t need to know everything about them and what they do on a daily basis. Oh, and it’s spelled “advice”, not advise.

I know from past experience that you don’t have to do much to a woman to be charged with assault. Even if they were just refusing to leave and he took them by the arm to walk them out, he could be charged and convicted of assault. The system is extremely flawed. So I say lets stay out of their personal business and let the blood suckers sort it out.
After his money? what a shock. Although I fond it hard to believe he is having $ difficulty… what is he spending it on? From what I’ve heard I would hardly call it assault… I think maybe mommy and sis are looking for a way to sue for money. I hope it does not come to that.

I have a toxic family and know exactly how manipulative and horrible it can get.
A likely version of the story would be more like:
1. They come to his apartment, maybe to have a dinner or say hi or something
2. They ask for money
3. They make all sorts of nasty comments/threats when he refuses. As family they can certainly know personal things to say to really hurt. The argument escalates on both sides.
4. He tells them to leave, they refuse and continue arguing. He grabs them by the arm and kicks them out.
5. Another hotel guest or posted security hears the commotion and calls police.
6. His Mom and Sis say that he assaulted him.
7. He goes down and explains the events and is erleased without charges.
8. None of our business
But, he was charged….and then released on bail until Sept. Supposedly his mother’s profession is a part-time clown and she was somehow making fun of his wife.
