By Tribute on August 4, 2015 | 81 Comments

Chris HyndmanChristopher Hyndman, 49, of the CBC daytime talk show Steven & Chris has died.

His death was announced by CBC in a Facebook post on its page, which read: “It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning. We extend our deepest sympathies to Steven, family, friends and colleagues; our thoughts are with them all.”

As a result of his death, CBC is removing the show from its schedule immediately. Christopher and Steven Sabados were partners off-screen and television co-hosts. Prior to their hit talk show, the pair co-starred on HGTV Canada’s Designer Guys, among other shows on the same network.  They married in 2008.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Hyndman. We were fortunate to work with him earlier in his career on HGTV’s Designer Guys and Design Rivals and Slice’s So Chic,” said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media, in a statement. “He was a wonderful and talented man and will be greatly missed. Our sympathies go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”

Details of Christopher’s death are not clear. According to Global News, a man was discovered without vital signs in an alley near Broadview Avenue and Queen Street in Toronto just before midnight last night. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Toronto police confirmed to CBC News the body was indeed Christopher Hyndman, but said they are not seeking witnesses.

Detective Terry Wray told the National Post: “We don’t release information in regards to people who’ve died unless they’re a victim of foul play and that hasn’t been determined yet.” ~Maria-Josee Martinez

  17. vicki williams • August 10, 2015 @ 12:21 AM

The passing of Steven tells me when you lived your life in sin this is the outcome you get.Society is too tolerance because they are also living in sin. But,unless you come to repentance you cannot enter the KINGDOM OF Heaven.Their would be people who would hate their sinful lifestyle.

  18. Cher • August 10, 2015 @ 1:55 AM

Vicki: You are a hateful idiot. Yes, people are tolerant because those who are believe in letting people live their lives as they choose in their own happiness whatever that may be. We do not choose what we were born to be and have to make the best of the life we are given (and no I am not gay).

Steven please accept my apologies for intolerant people, these are not the things you need to deal with at this time in your life. Sorry and saddened by your lose, Chris will be missed by thousands of people. Hoping for you comfort in your cherished memories.

  19. Helen • August 10, 2015 @ 8:32 AM

OMG! Vicki how thoughtless of you to say those remarks. Cher I share your statement…To Steven and Families my Heart goes out to you. Chris was such a wonderful person, so charismatic he will be sadly missed by all. Steven you are in my Prayers, i cannot begin to imagine your pain. God Bless you & Families

  20. Kaye C • August 10, 2015 @ 10:00 AM

RIP Christopher Hyndman… We crossed paths one fleeting moment over 3 years ago on Parliament Street, and his personality was radiating amid all the other people bustling up & down the crowded sidewalk. I actually felt this man’s energy as he walked past ~ that was what caught my attention! I didn’t really see him at 1st.

After noting a positive energy source pass nearby, I turned just in time to see a partial profile, stopped & ran back to tap this person on the shoulder.. “Hey! You’re that guy on TV!” I said… He just smiled & nodded his head. ‘Yes I am!’..

That’s it for my short encounter with this individual, however, his ENERGY was indeed notable, even from a distance. Sad to see someone with such an amazing strength of a beacon of positivity check-out so early in life. Condolences to all his immediate family, friends, colleagues & fans.. You will be missed!

First.Vicki Williams God said ‘Judge not ,lest ye be judged” You judged so,now let me judge you.You are a hateful.cruel specimen who hides in the cloak of apparent christianity to cover the rotted ugly insides that have now clawed their way to the surface for all to see.
Steven & Chris-forgive me for this on this page but i had to
R.I.P Chris..Trust me heaven was made for souls such as yours.Get up there and spruce up those clouds.
Steven, having a love for 28 years is more than any of us could wish for.Treasure the memories

  55. Sabine • August 10, 2015 @ 9:28 PM

My deepest sympathies to Steven and family. This was very tragic news to hear upon my return from being away. I watched their shows whenever I could. I will miss the humour and fun they had, Steven did the cooking and Chris the tasting especially when drinks where being mixed! He had such a fun side. Rest in Peace my friend and know that you are missed very much by many! Hugs to you Steven wish I could be there to help you through this very sad time.

  56. Cal • August 10, 2015 @ 9:28 PM

My most sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Steven and Chris, loved you both on your show, and Chris had suchhhh a lovely femmy sense of humor, it helped soooo many people be upbeat, even men. In my darkest moments, I would turn on the tele and see you both on the show, and I just thought … ya know… this isn’t so bad, Chris is chuckling away or making a little giggle at something or rather, and I just loved you both. Beautiful couple, beautiful show. and I am sooo deeply saddened by the passing of Christopher. I took a trip to starbucks for you both on the day Chris passed, and I ordered the fem fag special!… That 10$ trip to Starbucks was for you honey! Love you both. Chris, you were such an amazing man. To Steven, and to the world,… you will be forever remembered for your gorgeous sense of fashion, style, interior design, and your amazing sense of humour. xoxo.

I feel sorry for people who would make public their hate and their ignorance. Steven and Chris made a lot of us happy and a lot of us did not care who and what THEY WERE TO EACH OTHER. THEIR BUSINESS. THEIR LIVES. And they made mine a little lighter. So thank God for people like Chris. I will miss him terribly. Steven, I feel for you. It is always horribly hard to survive the loss of someone you love! Save all the good memories, they might help a little>

  58. marion sherwood • August 10, 2015 @ 9:44 PM

Chris will be sadly missed, May he rest in peace. Stephen, I am sorry for your loss. He will always be in our heart, never forgotten . Take the time to grieve in your own way, no one can tell you what is the right way . I went through the same thing with my husband a few years ago and the one thing I would like to pass on to you is the unpredictability of when your emotions will overtake you . That is normal even though you may think you are going out of your mind. In time the hurt fades and the memories put a smile once again on your face.
Please remember how much everyone loved Chris and You and accept our prayers and condolences .

    Your loyal fan Marion

Chris was a joy to watch and brightened living rooms throughout this country. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten. The only sin here, Vicki Williams, is your sin of hatred.
Steven, I hope you know that the majority of the population knows the truth. And people like Vicki Williams are just so wrong and often hide behind religion.

  66. Bernie • August 10, 2015 @ 10:38 PM

Steven I am very sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and Chris’s Mother and all of your loved ones. My thoughts are that Chris is now in heaven redesigning something and enjoying a cocktail!!

  67. Beverley • August 10, 2015 @ 11:18 PM

Vicki Williams…to start with..Steven did not pass..Chris a very talented, vibrant, well loved, (young) man passed..I grew up in a Pentecostal home and one of the most important things I learned..(I am no ones judge)..there is only (one), and although some may believe their life style is wrong, whether we agree with it or not it is not for any of us to decide..keep in mind..you will also be judged on you biased opinion of another of Gods creations…So very sorry for your loss Steven

  68. Diane • August 10, 2015 @ 11:23 PM

Steven, please accept my sincere condoleances from Montréal, Québec. 70. Helen • August 10, 2015 @ 11:58 PM

I was deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of Chris. This is so tragic. My heart goes out to Stephen for the loss of his best friend and love, and also to their families. These two were an awesome team and I will miss all the funny things they did on the show. I also loved the decorating tips and creative things they did. It was always such a happy show and I will miss it.
Please ignore the comment from Vicki Williams. The poor woman thinks it was Steven who died, so she is clearly oblivious to the story! Her judgemental beliefs are her own, and not the rest of ours. Steven & Chris were together 27 years, and this was meant to be. RIP Chris. Stay strong Steve We love you.

  71. nelda • August 11, 2015 @ 12:09 AM

I loved watching Steven and Chris so much ,they made me feel such great joy. Chris was a wonderful human being ,so filled with love ,laughter , kindness and a sense of humor next to none. It is with a sad sad heart that I bid farewell to a fellow Newfoundlander and a very well known man who was both admired and loved by many.Chris , you touched hearts of people you didn’t even know and throughout this lifetime probably would have never met , but that was the Newfoundlander in you. My condolences to your partner Steven and to your family, friends and co workers.I know you will be greatly missed.

Steven, don’t pay any attention to the negative comments on here, who are they to judge. The only sin i see here is ignorance from those who don’t half the intelligence to know any better

Shocked and saddened! Why is it that the gentle loving souls are often called home so early? …..and the mean and hurtful live on to spread their filth around for years.
