While many moviegoers are eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming 3D feature film Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away, audiences in Montreal will get to enjoy it just a little sooner. The studio has just announced that before the film opens across North America on December 21, it will first be released in Montreal on December 7 to celebrate the company's Quebec roots. Cirque du Soleil first began as a theater troupe founded in the early 80s in a village just east of Quebec City. Although their shows now travel around the world, their headquarters are still located in Montreal.
Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away was released in Japan earlier this month where it opened the Tokyo International Film Festival and earned $1.5 million its debut weekend. The film, which includes elements from different Cirque du Soleil shows performed in Las Vegas, follows two young lovers as they travel through a series of dreamlike, circus worlds in search of one another.
