Cowboys & Aliens corral the weekend box office

Though early estimates placed Cowboys & Aliens and The Smurfs at a tie for first place box office finisher, final tallies are in and Cowboys & Aliens starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford topped the box office with $36.4 million over the long weekend, while The Smurfs finished closely behind with $35.6 million and a 4.4 star Tribute.ca rating. Despite the first place finish, the western sci-fi flick earned less than estimates, which pegged it at between $40 and $50 million. Tribute.ca viewers rated it 3.6 out of 5 stars. Captain America: The First Avenger dropped a spot to second place but was pushed over the $100 million mark with an additional $25.6 million over the weekend, while Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 continues its magic in fourth place, taking in $21.9 million for a total of $318.5 million and 4.25 stars at Tribute.ca. Rounding out the top five was the new comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love., which earned $19.1 million and was given 4.3 out of 5 stars by Tribute.ca viewers.
